A couple of really great games today. That comeback by BC was epic. What a fantastic weekend for CFL football

that comeback by BC was due to poor coaching from Ottawa there's no reason to try and kick a fg there all you do if you get it is take it from a 2 score game to a 2 score game. Redblack fans deserve better than Bob Dyce sorry not sorry

I wanted Bob to succeed but it’s not looking good. I thought Campbell made a mistake when he didn’t kick the late FG but it ended up working out for him

some people aren't cut out to be coaches they're better as coordinators see Hall, Richie

For sure, there are plenty of examples of this. Stubler comes to mind as well but I may be wrong with that

I don't know what rationale Dyce used on that kick but a few possible factors. 1) prior to that attempt Ward was 8 of 10 on the season from 50+ and 2 for 2 from 53 on the night in windless BC Place. 2) nobody had run a MFG back for a TD in the CFL in 2023. 3) Williams had not returned a kick of any sort for a TD since coming over to BC from Ottawa mid-2022. 4) BC had already partially blocked 1 Leone punt earlier in the half and came oh so close to blocking one or two more. Dyce may have figured the 80% chance of Ward making the kick > than the 5% odds of a miss being run back to the house. The one factor against trying was the fact when attempting a FG you are kicking to the middle of the field.

It just doesn't make sense to me you've got what 1:30 left? you punt it worst case scenario you get a point and they get it on their 40 or you shank one and they get it around their 40 so now you go soft shell zone make them burn 40ish seconds to get into the endzone at worst and force them to get an onside kick which has such a low % I believe I saw in the nfl it's around 3-5%. Like I said Dyce is a good coordinator probably a good person but as a coach I'd be looking elsewhere if I was Ottawa tbh.

Yep I was watching the game with my Lions fan Father in law and when they lined up for the FG I said this is a mistake as you never know what will happen if he misses this FG

No the worst case scenario for a punt is that it gets run back for a TD or blocked potentially for a TD.

Some of the math Dyce had to consider is that Ward at that point was 80% on the season from 50+ including 2 earlier in the game from 53 while Leone had lined up for 6 punts with one being partially and 2 more where BC came within a whisker of being blocked. The near blocks on half of the punt attempts had to also play in his mind.

I would be curious to see the numbers on blocked FG or missed FG TDs and vs blocked punts or punt return TDs.

I can see the logic behind the decision but am curious what the numbers would say

that's why the punter in that case just needs to grab/kick distance doesn't matter as you're playing a game of possessions vs time.

Lewis Ward is out of the season and they signed Domagala to replace him
