In the pool this week, I faltered a little, only going 2-2. I'm still seven points ahead of bone, with previous pool winners couchspud and naf nipping at his heels, and Hugo and cmbuk still hanging around. I'm going to have to pick up my game next week to avoid a comeback!Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

Wow... with a couple of tough picks this week, I thought going 4-0 would gain me at least a couple of points on bone... but instead, he gained a couple of points on me! Brilliant week for him, with 10 points. My lead is now only 5. Four players are very tight for third place; couchspud, Hugo, naf, and cmbuk. But at the moment, at least for first place, it looks like a two horse race.Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

I've never been close this late, so now I'm getting a bit nervous. I don't want to choke this away.
These next two weeks may be the toughest ones to pick as you'll be seeing different motives for the teams than most prior games this year.
BC needs a bit of a miracle to get home field, but they play first, so they likely want to win going into their bye and push Winnipeg to win home field instead of giving it to them early. That said, Calgary could clinch playoffs this weekend with an upset over BC and Saskatchewan losing vs. Toronto so they'll leave nothing on the field.
Saskatchewan needs to win to have any hope of playoffs or else Calgary needs only 1 win out of their last two games to take their spot. Since it's at home Saskatchewan definitely doesn't want another home loss and a long losing streak to finish and Toronto is more likely to rest players in their road games. However, both of their last two are road games so which will it be? A game with longer travel considerations but against a desperate team or in Ottawa where neither team is likely to be overly invested in the final game but easier travel. Toronto is also kind of chasing a historical season, so I'm thinking they may dress a proper team in the rectangle.
Edmonton is done and this is their last game. Winnipeg has to play both of the final two weeks. So which one do they allow starters to rest. If BC wins they may want to put their best game forward giving them two opportunities to lock up the bye going into the West final. But if BC is knocked off by Calgary, maybe Winnipeg rests a bunch of players for this game and dresses the starters next week so that they don't have 3 weeks between games.
May need to update predictions after every game as the BC/Calgary result could have impact on how teams play on Saturday.Last edited by bone; 10-16-2023, 04:20 PM.

Well, well...
Bone had a bit of a disastrous week, going 0-3. That allowed me to gain four points on him, restoring my lead to 9 points! With 8 games left, I'm not saying it's over, but... a miracle or two would be needed.
But his bad week has enlived the race for second place considerably! He's now only two points ahead of couchspud, with Hugo, naf, and cmbuk firmly in the race. Remember, the first two finishers get prizes, so lots to play for here!

Really weird week coming up. Not a single game makes any difference in the standings. But they make all the difference in the pool. Who will come to play, and who will do a "BC Lions" of last week?
Have fun picking... make sure you do it on time!Out of my mind; back in five minutes.
