Re: New Rules All Good Ideas!!!!
After the way helmets were flying off last year something certainly had to be done... though I think the issue must have been largely with the manufacturer, I have a hard to believing that a rash of players would suddenly start doing something radically different when putting on their lids. The new rule seems fair enough, put the onus on the guy losing his helmet to remove himself from play, or blow it down if it's the ball carrier.Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Whomever is in possession of the ball is considered the ballcarrier, aren't they? Caught pass, hand off, snap, interception, kick return or picked up a fumble, don't matter.Originally posted by turftoe27 View PostMakes sense. They say ballcarrier, but I would assume that would also include a receiver whose lid gets knocked off by contact but is still upright. Makes me think back to that play ls year where Hinse lost his helmut and kept blocking.Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can't wait for the first game of the season to take 4 hours witt Jake reviewing every TD...
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

There's that but IMO it is a unfair advantage to the defence. Here's why. All scoring plays are reviewed so it has already been called a TD. So it can only be confirmed what has already been called or overturned without a challege by the defence. If the play is not called a TD it takes a challenge by the offence to get the play overturned. Doesn't matter what the replay call is the offence has to burn a challenge. Add to that the wait for Jake, I don't like the rule as it is applied in the NFL and it won't be any better here.Originally posted by Opus View PostOh yippie, more plays where Ireland gets to play god in the replay booth. You're 100% correct, and the NFL has it wrong as well. If they are going to review one way, it should go the other as well, with every play (when scoring could be in question - but not necessarily called on the field) is challenged.Originally posted by quake View PostThere's that but IMO it is a unfair advantage to the defence. Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.

With that rule now in place, I noticed NFL officials would call a TD on the field more often even if it was uncertain just so that it would be reviewed. Hopefully our officials will receive the same instructions.
I like the changes, especially for helmets. It's one of those things you can't ignore if you're serious about player safety."Because this Eskimo experience is not made for just anyone" - KP
