Just saw that Lalacheur has confirmed that at the end of the month the team no longer has any old ops cap money on the books and we’re finally in the clear in that department. What a disaster that program has been!

Agreed smart young coachOriginally posted by turftoe27 View Postu
Nice find. I was wondering what would happen in Riderville with Mace likely being the DC also.. Shivers and Jones have worked together before. Will be interesting to see if CJ can be comfortable not calling the D plays. We should find out soon, iirc CFL asst/coaches contracts are up at the end of December in most cases. In Rod we trust

I'm just going to throw it out there.
2022, Saskatchewan had the worst o-line leading to offensive line coach being fired. Jones takes him on and the Edmonton Oline struggles most of the year (granted it did settle down as the year wore on).
2023, Saskatchewan has the most points scored against them in the CFL , leading to a big losing streak and the firing of their Head Coach and now we're looking to bring in the DC of the team that allowed the most points in the CFL.
Shivers may be a great add, but I'm a little concerned that guys that provide league worst results are quickly added to the coaching staff at the earliest moment after they get let go.

Well said. I had a similar reaction and you have capsulized my fears exactly. The Wheaties did have some talented players on D.Originally posted by bone View PostI'm just going to throw it out there.

Before I get labeled as looking at the team with green and gold glasses on I'll preface this with saying that there is a possibility that the Jones/Shivers defensive system isn't as effective as it used to be. That being said with Jones and Shivers together they were ranked (based on Points against, which can be misleading):- 2014 with Edm = #1
- 2015 with Edm = #1
- 2016 with Sask = #8
- 2017 with Sask = #2
- 2018 with Sask = #4
- 2019 Shivers with sask = #2
- 2021 Shivers with sask = #4
- 2022 Shivers with sask = #8. Jones with Edm = #9
- 2023 Shivers with sask = #9. Jones with Edm = #8

Good counter argument. I'm certainly not opposed to Shivers and really do want Jones to get some help on the defensive side. Ultimately he's been part of more good defenses than bad defenses, so I won't complain about him being hired, just thinking there should be caution it may not be a slam dunk improvement.Originally posted by Looner View PostBefore I get labeled as looking at the team with green and gold glasses on I'll preface this with saying that there is a possibility that the Jones/Shivers defensive system isn't as effective as it used to be. Perhaps both of them being so bad the last two year is that teams may have figured out that style of defense and if so having two of them may not be a good thing and perhaps we'd be better served by a different perspective, but then I also think about the specific games this year, and though the defense failed some nights, often they were put in difficult positions by anemic offense and it feels likes we had more pick 6s against than usual, so who knows maybe our defense was better than the stats show. I didn't pay as close attention to Saskatchewan either so perhaps they experienced similar issues

I’ll be watching defensive free agents closely this year, both our own and those on the market. Between Shivers’ guys in Saskatchewan and guys who would’ve played for Jones in Toronto, there is familiarity.
I wouldn’t mind seeing if Moncrief would come back to Edmonton or maybe looking at some of their DL. From Toronto, there’s some good LBs and DBs too.

I'm with you on this one, there is some cautious optimism on my part. Adding bodies with experience to the coaching staff cannot be a bad thing but I can be an overly optimistic person so who knows.Originally posted by bone View Post

Agreed on many front here…
Shivers as D coordinator is just fine… I’m sure CJ will have his foot prints all over the defence regardless… another quality coach to add to the mix is never a bad idea…
Interesting to see player movement in FA… I would assume we will see some D players from SASK follow Shivers to the EE… also some TOR defensive players follow Mace over to SASK…
Ratio is what I’ll be looking at… I assume QB Ford will be the starter barring some unforeseen circumstances…
7 Nationals..
1 QB
4 OL
1 FB/WR
1 Defensive starter…. I would think it will be a LB…. Could see a DE or DT from SASK coming over…
My 3 cents…

AC Leonard and Boyko are still in town doing stuff for the club. I'm guessing this means that we have contracts in a desk drawer waiting till the new year to get filed but I could be off with that as well.

Very interesting point. Players on defense that liked being in Saskatchewan the last couple years will certainly be interested in coming here and with intel from Shivers about how they are in the room, could be a good opportunity to pick up one or two good ones from them.Originally posted by SKIP12 View PostAgreed on many front here…

You guys have the depth to continue to start a Canadian at WLB.Originally posted by SKIP12 View PostAgreed on many front here…

looks like our Esks are looking to sign MacBeth, I like this signing to teach Tre , but no way Ford gets big money if we sign MBT

MLB might help us next year at QB…the key word is ‘might’…. What I can guarantee is if MLB is signed as the QB1 and the plan is for Ford to take the back seat and learn as the backup…. Ford is as good as gone after the season….Originally posted by dealerd View Posthttps://x.com/cfl_headlines/status/1...064729521?s=46

I realize that CJ probably realizes that If he doesn’t turn this around this season he is most likely gonzo… but Ford was one of the bright spots last year and not sure if MBT is the answer..
My 3 Cents…

How do we feel about this?
I’m torn. I think MBT could be exactly who we need to run the offence and connect with our many receiving threats, but at what cost? We need a line to protect him and we need to improve several defensive spots and the kicking game.
Ford made me eat my words about him ever being a player and he’s cost controlled. Can he do the job over a full year sample? Does signing MBT guarantee his prime will be in another uniform, and what if he is the real deal?
There’s a lot to weigh here for Jones and Co.
