You are correct. As painful as it is to watch the HC, DC, and QB struggle at critical times, they will get better, learning from their mistakes. There were moments when I wondered why we were playing so much soft zone. Alexander was picking us apart for easy first downs. I was impressed how much the ALS were using roll out packages to stymie our pressure. Something we would be well advised to incorporate. Maybe the deep throws could have been tried sooner just to pose that threat in the Als minds. I don’t know why we fail in so many 2nd and 7 situations. Other teams have solved that problem.
Last year we went 0 and 7 . Hope we can do better this year, I believe the talent is there.

While naturally the team can't look at it this way, I've been looking at these first three games as being needed to be treated almost like pre-season to work out the kinks against really good team and having the ready to cook for Week 5 against Ottawa and hopefully carry through that into a good season from there. Special teams looks to be on track, offense is showing some moments but not nearly enough, and the defense has to figure it out quickly as it's a full on weakness so far.

I agree, change it back. There is enough of the people that the name actually could impact that said they liked it, thought it was an honor and were upset it got changed to make it not a big deal.

What I would do is exactly what my City's minor hockey association did. We are the Chiefs.. We have been the Chiefs since 1967. Our logo is a indigenous guy with a head dress on. When the name thing started to become a thing, our association reached out to all of the tribes around RD. They talked to them. Asked them their opinions, their feelings, asked them what can we do to make this OK with you. So we tweaked the logo. It's still a guy with a head dress but instead of colored feathers, they are black and white. His clothes went from multi colored to brown. There used to be hair braids hanging down from the sides of his face, now it's black and white feathers. That's it. There are a ton of jerseys to change with all the levels of hockey so we have been doing them over the last couple of seasons but I think it's done now.

We didn't become the Chiefs to insult them. So we went to talk to them about it, listened to them, got their input, changed the logo to how they wanted to see it to reflect how it's supposed to look for them. Then at the start of the 2023 season, they had a big ceremony. They brought in 5 actual Chiefs from the tribes in Central Alberta. They had those Chiefs bless things, bless the logos, the name. There was 5 of the local Chiefs on the ice to drop the puck. THAT'S IT. We get to be the Chiefs forever because we included them and they are happy.

So if I am the Elks and I want to go back to the Eskimos. Talk to them. Don't send a stupid survey or an email like I think the past guys did. Make the trip or fly them in. Whatever it takes to physically talk to them in person. Listen to them, explain your reasoning why you created the name and why you want it back and ask them, what can we do to make this good with you. If you need a patch or a symbol or whatever on your jersey, then do it. Then bring them in, do a ceremony, make them feel heard and a part of and it will be fine. It's not that hard.

I’ve said it for a long time Ford is NOT a starting qb in this league , absolutely brutal in my eyes 49 yards passing first half 4.9 yards average , I can’t see us winning any games with Ford as qb, D can’t stop anything and it’s worse as they can’t get off the field thanks to Ford as qb, can’t anybody please tell me if we will win any games this year snd if so who ??? he can be... if the OC uses him for his strengths. But here we are forcing him to stand in the pocket majority of the time. Roll outs, move the pocket just don't have him stand there.

Love that they are trending away from the Elks brand. Only saw the symbol in one spot, on the side of the building outside of the west concession. A few hats and shirts they are selling have them. My 10 year old son noticed well before the game that Spike was nowhere to be seen and said that he figured Nanook was coming back. When the fire truck drove through onto the track with Nanook on it he just about lost his mind. I’ve heard rumours that going back to the Eskimos is a done deal for next year, but they couldn’t get it together in time for this season. If they do go back it will be high time for all of the fans that claim they will go back if the name is restored to do so! I hope it all happens.

Your saying we will be the ESKIMOS again starting next season? I pray that your correct , who or what is your sources ? Are they legit and from internal Eskimos organization ??as a 50 year diehards ESKIMOS fan I’d be so pumped going back to the old name , I refuse to buy anything Elks , only the EE logo , just got 2 brand new style hats in mail as I live in Sask and I still call them ESKIMOS, how true is this name change for next season and who are your sources ?

My Take:

I do not like Sherritt. 2 games with a week inbetween and the D is complete dog ****. Can him now.
I didn't like the OC's hire either. Not a good fit with Ford - unless the goal is to run him out of town.
Leake can leave. usless returner ok RB.

Ford. Massive growing pains for sure. I dont think the OC is even trying to use Ford to his strengths. Lets turn him into a pocket passer. I have a feeling they are not going to give ford a fighting chance and secretly want fatjoe as the starter.
He ( ford) has a lot to work on: Less rainbow passes please. Lots of learning is needed... gettting quicker on his progressions.. but when your OL is dog**** too , you wont have a lot of time. IMP he needs alittle more time than say fatjoe to go thru his progressions right now. We saw he can throw non rainbow late in the forth aka garbage time so he has the ability...Just needs to pick up on what the D is doing quicker.

We should be a run heavy team to set up the pass. Leake, Rankin and Ford use rollouts, move the pocket, play action ( course you need a Oline than can work - which we do not have now) . NOT the other away around. If the OC uses him as a pocket passer for the majority of his snaps it'lll be garbage. Never thought the OC was a good pick for Ford - but is for FatJoe. makes you wonder how much the Elks are lying about them being behind Ford.

I'd like to see DB ford play reciever in a couple packages.


Also we need to consider we drop QB ford you can guarenttee DB ford will be gone too.

Also hearing the organization has stripped all Elks references. I saw spots where there used to be giant Elks symbols on the side of a stands gone. I saw pictures of the fire truck with Eskimos on the side. This true?

If they brought back the fire truck with Eskimos on the side, pretty big tell they are changing the name I would think.

For the game. I know they played 2 decent teams with decent offense but man giving up that many points back to back makes it pretty tough to win. I am hoping it's a combination of lots of new players trying to learn a new system and learning to play with eachother on top of a new DC learning who's he got, what they can do, figuring out what players are best where and some growing pains with a young DC. So I hope the defense can settle down.

Offense. I am hoping Ford is coming because I am not seeing the improvement in the areas I thought he needed to improve from last year. The reading defense doesn't seem to be improved yet. His decision making doesn't seem to have improved yet. His accuracy and touch hasn't improved a lot yet. I don't put much stock in them scoring a few TD's at the end. It was 28-6 going into the 4th quarter. They pulled their starting QB for MBT and it was 38-14 with maybe half the 4th left. So I don't think the Als were coming at the Elks as hard when it's garbage time which let the Elks get closer in score than the game really was. You can't be down 3 TD's going into the 4 and win.

They are going to be in real tough against the Bombers on the road so going 0-3 is a real possibility. If the game was a back and forth, each teams changing leads, super close game, then maybe you can draw some positives but it wasn't close for most of the game regardless of what the score said. I do hope Ford can get better and in a hurry because they have to win some games. If they want people to start coming, you can't keep piling up the losses at the start of the year. I don't want this to be like last year where the season wasn't even half over and it was already going to take an act of god just to be .500. If Ford keep sputtering, even next game, I would play Fajardo. They have to win right now!

yup... Ford has been gimmicky and still is. i still see zero progression from last year. no pun intended. His throw to wide open Mathis in endzone was short instead of leading him to the corner where only he can go get it.

I am concerned for the O - but its game 2 new system. First full season of being the starter.. there will be growing pains and I hope the Eskimos just dont bench him.

I'm more upset with the OC over than the players.


Over all i'm more upset with the defense than anything.. .I thought they'd be doing a lot better Good D would help Ford imo.

We will lose a lot more than just 3 to start the season with Ford at qb , Jones said he drafted Ford as a positional player not just qb , because of his athletic ability , does he have amazing speed and athletic skill YES , does he have the ability to read defences and be a starting calibre qb in any league NO , Ford would not be starting qb with any other team in the CFL , we may not win a game by Labour Day as long as Ford is starter , by that time the season is OVER as is any hopes of making playoffs , please name any team in the CFL we could beat with Ford as our starter , EVERY team has a better starting qb

The problem is, I don't think most fans will be willing to wait 3 yrs. Hervey wasn't here but they have been rebuilding for awhile. They need to start winning some games right away. The new owner is going to be bleeding money with no one going to games.
