I don't want to set my expectations too high but it would be cool to get a sack. Just one. I won't ask for more, just one. MBT played a whole half of football and you can clock his 40 with a sun dial and they couldn't get 1 so I am hoping my ask for 1 isn't too much.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.
I think the optimism is warranted for a change but it makes me nervous as well. Slow work day so I decided to compare how our D has looked since the last bye week vs the first part of the season and its a fairly significant change. The D we are seeing now (minus the sacks) is what I was expecting to see from the start of the year. Here's how the averages worked out:
Pts surrendered = 34 points per game in the first 5 games and 23.7 in the last 3
Passing yards allowed = 330 yards per game in the first 5 and 270 in the last 3
Rushing yards allowed = 118.6 in the first 5 games and 68 in the last 3
Overall yards allowed = 443.6 in the first 5 games and 335 in the last 3.
For comparisons sake the teams we played in the first 5 are a combined 20-24 (0.455 winning percentage) vs 18-8 (0.692 winning percentage). If we had the same production in the first 5 games as we have in the last 3 we would be 3rd in points surrendered, 3rd in passing yards allowed, 2nd in rushing yards allowed and 2nd in opponents net offence.
This is the type of progression that I was hoping to see this year, it just took longer to get there then I was hoping.

Those numbers are looking waaay better, if they shore up their tackling those numbers will come down even further.
Now the guys seem to be getting a better grasp on the system JC is running it's time for them to step up individually and start making big plays (sacks, INT's, forced fumbles)

Inexcusable as far as I'm concerned. Although they did do a better job of getting pressure at times which is great, but you gotta finish.
Hopefully it was just a matter of them having to think too much but now that they appear to be getting a grasp on the system that should free them up to stop thinking so much and start playing fast so that they can make those explosive plays.
