I also had written Fajardo and Adam’s off completely after their first few years in the league and I ended up being dead wrong on both in the long run so I have learned my lesson on giving up on young QBs too early. That’s why I’m not willing to say definitively that Ford doesn’t still have a future in this league eventually.

I just hope we can hang onto Fajardo and our OC long enough to develop Tre properly in a system that is consistent. Changing coordinators every year doesn't help with player growth as they have to learn new verbiage and the wrinkles the new OC likes to add.Originally posted by ben_the_eskimo View Post

I hope so as well. Typically any young QB spends a few seasons on the sidelines learning to be a pro before becoming a starter. But the question I have is will Ford be OK with being the #2 for a bit?Originally posted by Looner View Post

I could be wrong but it didn't seem like that was the case early on. Maybe the environment is better now and he'd be more receptive to it.Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

He does seem to be more engaged with Cody on the sidelines than he was with MBT.Originally posted by Sectionq View Post

Without being inside his head its impossible to know but there is a difference in his body language this year compared to last. He even interrupted Fajardos presser the other day to tell everyone what his completion percentage was.Originally posted by Sectionq View Post

Ford has no other options but to stay and learn as a number 2 , where in the CFL is he gonna go to be the starter ? The answer is nowhere , the only scenario that happens is if a major season ending injury to a starter or a retirement , such could be the case in Winnipeg next year , possibly Hamilton , but he is under contract for 2 more years after this season , so either he sticks as back up and learns under Cody , unless Cody leaves after one year here,he is being paid good money to be a number 2 nowOriginally posted by Sectionq View Post

Well if the Elks do decide they want Cody as their starter it might be a challenge. He is only 33 and based on what happens the rest of the season they could come to that decision. Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Sask are currently rolling with older QBs as their number 1. If they want to keep Cody they would have to offer him substantially more and with Tre's salary I'm not sure they could do that. Tre has some guaranteed money so would they just walk away from that? With him getting north of 300K could we offer Cody a similar contract to stay? Not sure we could afford it. Would he stay for high back up money like MBT ( I believe he is making $185K plus incentives as a backup with the Als). Does anyone know how much Cody is currently making? I didn't think it was that much. If the right circumstances fall into place I could see Winnipeg looking for a legit starter next season. Maybe even Sask if Harris decides to hang them up. Based on performance so far I don't see them rolling with Maier as their number 1. Next season I could see Cody leaving for greener pastures if he doesn't get the starters job here (or at least gets paid like one).Originally posted by dealerd View Post

Actually just found it. He is making pretty good money:
Hard money: $180,000
Maximum value: $262,000
So maybe he stays for that if Winnipeg or Sask don't come calling. But if Cody is the starter next season how would he feel about getting less than the backup? The Elks would have to bump up his contract where he is making more than Tre. Wouldn't they?Last edited by adb; 08-21-2025, 09:42 AM.“RUN THE DANG BALL!" -Leigh Anne Tuohy character from the film The Blind Side

Ford needs to get a haircut next year or be traded.
cody is our man and should be locked up.
But there are ways to keep both. Elliot Brown might come back. Do we need Robbie Smith at his bloated salary when Brown is better faster stronger cheaper?
i get his Cdn but we dont need that many Cdns around. Keep it to min 7.
