Wow that's quite a commitment to Julien. Too bad about Grace as he appears to be very popular among his team mates and was doing a good job. I am happy to see Julien back though.“RUN THE DANG BALL!" -Leigh Anne Tuohy character from the film The Blind Side
"Next time, take a case of Pil into the huddle. If you don't get a beer, get the hell off the field!" -New special teams coach for the Riders
"When the Eskimos are out on defense it looks like there are two or three number 47s out there." -Duane Ford
"...I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, I enjoy the banter though

Yeah, can't complain about thisOriginally posted by Brock my Rock View PostJulian is slightly better than Grace on average puting yards. Grace is solid but yeah I would keep Julian over Grace too.
One thing though is that I think Grace has been better at ball placement than Julien was last year leading to better coverage. Perhaps that moreso coaching giving better direction as to where to punt the ball to complement the coverage, but we shall soon see. Looking forward to seeing Julien back.

They signed him to the practice roster.Originally posted by writfiler View PostI see that Elliott Brown has been released by Az.
I would love to see him back as an Elk as well as Jake Julien who was cut by TB 2 weeks ago. There are better things in the world than beer but beer sort of compensates for not getting them.

The great thing about Julien is he can change field position /tilt the field , I think he can really boom it and get us out of bad field position , I LOVE this signingOriginally posted by bone View Post

In preseason game 1 he had 4 targets and zero catches but he did have one kick return of 34 yards. In preseason game 2 he had 2 catches on 2 targets for 47 yards with 1 TD, 2 punt returns for 25 yards and 1 kickoff return for 33 yardsOriginally posted by dealerd View PostIf I recall Calhoun had a solid camp and I thought I read that Esks fans were disappointed in his release , can anybody comment on Calhoun ???

My hopes are that the better coverage from our punting and team can take care of that. Unforunately it seemed too often last year that when he really got a hold of one the unit wasn't effective at pinning the guy so the net yardage ended up similar despite the longer kicking distance.Originally posted by dealerd View Post

Yeah, it's an interesting one as Grace has been with Killam for five years, so likely not an easy personnel decision no matter how much we love Julien's leg. If he's healthy a trade could make sense, but if I'm another GM I'm probably trying to outwait the Elks and hoping they just release him.Originally posted by bone View Post
Or maybe they know it's likely season ending so just get the new guy on board and re-evaluate in the offseason.

I guess another factor in all of this is current needs around the league. Is there any team that is struggling excessively with punting where the incumbent doesn't have history with the team that would encourage them to stick with the incumbent?Originally posted by BeaverSports View Post

As I recall looking at stats going into the season Grace wasn't a major standout coming into the season being 8th in average yards kicking last year, so could his good start be a product of better team play, a hot streak, or him actually turning the corner. Those would be concerns amongst any that would be looking for change just for the sake of making it ultimately disrupting any current chemistry with their punting units.Last edited by bone; 08-28-2025, 12:25 PM.
