While I agree, what was the point of all that verbal at the end of the year then, if you are leaving the door open for a return. Unless they thought it might motivate him to consider different approaches that he may have been resistent to in the past, but I'd suspect Tre's more likely the type that will just say **** you, you didn't believe in me.Originally posted by Eskie54 View Post
I agree. His stats are actually fairly good but people are blaming him for team failures. That comes with the position of QB whether fairly or unfairly.

Smart move on Herveys part to keep all options open because as of right now, our QB room is definitely stronger with Tre than without him.Originally posted by widowmaker View PostGood article from 3 Down Nation on the Tre Ford situation. Ed says that he's not shopping Tre at the moment and he wants to sit down with him first before making any decisions. Personally, I hope that we see Tre back with the team.

It almost seemed to me like there's some strategy afoot in the comments from Hervey and Kilam, like they're trying to rebuild Ford's value and push any team that might be interested to step forward now or risk the Elks keeping him. It's a really bizarre turn to go from him not playing a single down, and them saying a change might be best, to them really boasting about his character.Originally posted by ben_the_eskimo View Post

Personally, I don't think their opinion of him as a football player (and maybe as a teammate) has changed. I think it's all about leverage, but maybe it's trying to temper some improvement in the relationship if the other options don't seem viable.

The way FIFA dictates things I can't imagine them allowing a gridiron game to be played on their pristine grass soccer pitch only 3 days before any WC match even if only for a friendly. What if it happened to rain during the Elks game or immediately before? Maybe Elks will have to bump the game up 24 or 48 hours as a precaution. In the event of wet conditions for the Elks game an extra day or two could be huge for getting the surface in top shape for FIFA.Originally posted by Maas_12 View Postso with news of a world cup friendly June.1 and real grass being inputted apparently at commonwealth...are they going to leave it and what are the timelines for all of that change etc and implications of Elks game May.29 preseason. someone smarter than me can elaborate?
Also curious how they'd do it. Would they roll up and remove the Commonwealth field turf first? Or simply lay the temporary grass field down on top of it? Might not be so easy to remove the field turf if it's been installed on a more permanent basis. In BC Place rolling up the turf and taking it out happens on a regular basis. They have it down to an art. For the WC they will lay the grass turf down on the cement possibly after laying down a dirt sub-surface.

I have heard that the CW turf has been scheduled for replacement this year anyways so maybe with this soccer game coming the city elects to go back to natural turf full time at CW? Not sure just speculating about that part. 99% sure the turf is getting replaced though regardless.Originally posted by Hammer24 View Post

I would think they’d wait to replace the turf until the field dimensions change in 2027.Originally posted by ben_the_eskimo View Post

I can confirm 100% that they are replacing the turf as my son has meetings overlooking the field and they had it all torn upOriginally posted by ben_the_eskimo View Post

That would make some sense but the thing is the City has their own timelines for repair and maintenance of their buildings that has nothing to do with decisions that are made by outside entities such as the CFL. Is what it is.Originally posted by eskfan152 View PostI would think they’d wait to replace the turf until the field dimensions change in 2027.

Shouldn't make a difference. They'll still be replacing the same amount of turf. Current CFL field dimensions are 150 yards x 65 yards. Per Google Earth view Commonwealth's existing field turf covers an area 172 yards x 82 yards. Presumably that is what they'd be replacing regardless of CFL dimensions.Originally posted by eskfan152 View PostI would think they’d wait to replace the turf until the field dimensions change in 2027.
Ironically in the view I'm seeing both Commonwealth and Clarke are lined for 4 down football; 120 yard fields w/10 yard endzones x.53 yards wide with uprights at the back of the endzones. Both have a Football Canada logo in one endzone and Football Alberta logo in the other although the logos in Commonwealth are quite faint compared to Clarke. The views must've been from 2024 when Edmonton hosted the IFAF World U20 Championships.
Bottom line they can replace the existing field surface area and still be able to configure it for multiple purposes. There's no reason to cut it short just because the CFL won't need to use as much area as they used to. There could be other non-football events where it would be desirable to have as much surface in field turf as is reasonable.Last edited by Hammer24; 01-16-2026, 10:49 AM.
