Could Montreal have 1st place locked up by the time Sask plays them? If so then the concern would be that the Als don't have anything to play for and rest their starters in those 2 games. Hopefully we take care of business against Toronto and Hamilton and then its a moot point.Originally posted by bone View Post
Update:
Clinching playoffs - Done
Clinching first West appearance since 2017.
Magic number of 2 meaning 2 wins or 2 losses by WPG or combinations thereof. Alternatively the magic number vs. BC is 3, but WPG plays BC once so one of them has to lose one.
Clinching first home playoff game since 2015.
Magic Number 3, or for home Western Final 4.
Earliest possible clinch date Sat. September 26th if Edmonton wins both of the next two games and Sask beats BC on the 25th.
A 3-2 record clinches a home game and if one of those wins is in Sask or if Sask loses a single game in the final 5, it clinches home for the West Final.
A 2-3 record would clinch a home game provided BC loses one of their final 5 games or Sask loses 2. 2-3 could also clinch the West Final provided one of the wins is vs. Sask and both Sask and BC loses one other game each in their final 5.
Remaining schedules
EDM - at Tor, vs. Ham, BYE, at Ham, vs. WPG at SSK (Combined records 30-35)
SSK - Bye, at BC, vs. CGY, at MTL, vs. MTL, vs. EDM. (Combined records 42-23)
BC - Bye, vs. SSK, at TOR, vs. OTT, at CGY, vs. WPG (Combined records 27-37)
WPG - Bye, vs. TOR, at MTL, vs. CGY, at EDM, at BC (Combined records 39-26)“RUN THE DANG BALL!" -Leigh Anne Tuohy character from the film The Blind Side

Who is on the hot seat? Don't see the RBs moving on from Dinwiddie after 1 season and I have a feeling Milanovich gets a pass with BLM being hurt. That leaves Dickenson. Does he get another year? Not sure. The other thing to consider is that JC has only been a DC for 2 seasons so maybe some might still think he's a little green? I think we keep him for one more season but after that I could totally see him getting a shot and the hot seats in Ottawa and Calgary might be at lot hotter by then.Originally posted by Esks4ever View PostI'm scared we gunna lose JC“RUN THE DANG BALL!" -Leigh Anne Tuohy character from the film The Blind Side

I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't have 1st locked up by then or at minimum no realistic threat remaining from Toronto. However, I think they will want to keep that home streak running especially on Thanksgiving mondy, so I'd expect them to take Sask seriously in the first game at home, could see them sending a lesser squad to the rematch in Sask especially as it will be on a short week. Elks can't anything for granted, but they are at least in a pretty good spot where they control their fate with room for possibly one maybe even two slip ups.Originally posted by adb View Post

Calgary is the only real threat to grab him as he has history there, however, he's only year 2 as DC so they might be worried about bumping him up the ladder too quick. I mean it's a team that slow burned Killam for nearly 20 years.Originally posted by adb View Post

No other team is a threat next year. So the timing might actually be pretty good as Calgary may want blood this summer and Sherritt not quite being ready yet hopefully has them looking elsewhere first, then we'll see about the rest, but at least the one team with history could be off the board as it's rare that teams only give an HC a single season.

Surprised that Thorpe doesn't get serious consideration as his defenses have consistently been near the top. Don't think I've heard of him interviewing for a HCing job for a number of years now but maybe I've just not heard about it.Originally posted by Looner View Post
oh ya for sure, I'm thinking we have 2 or 3 more years for JC but that depends on how willing people are to roll the dice on an unknown HC or if JC even wants to be a HC“RUN THE DANG BALL!" -Leigh Anne Tuohy character from the film The Blind Side

I've always been surprised about that as well but I know he's interviewed for a number of jobs and not gotten them so there has to be something upOriginally posted by adb View Post

I simply don't get why Thorpe has never gotten an opportunity. Has more than 25 years experience in several different roles and has had success in most of those roles. There must be something about him behind closed doors that scares people off.Originally posted by adb View Post

Possibly, but it's been pretty public that he has applied on some HC postions in the past. The noise has suppressed a bit the last couple years but before that he was often part of the narrative when teams were coach hunting.Originally posted by cmbuk View PostOr he doesn’t wanna be a hc
ive been coaching for 28 years and I’ve only ever wanted to be an oc and that’s where I have stayed
