late to the conversation as football started for my son this weekend but my thoughts on the game:
    • Our Defence is the real deal. 31 takeaways through 10 games is insane
    • Thought Reid had a bit of a coming out party. Killam compared his trajectory to JJ Ross's last year,
    • Penalties were manageable
    • Special teams had their best game IMO
    • Offence was stale in the 1st half but came around in the second. Seems to me we are putting a lot of focus on not turning the ball over, which is never a bad focus as the team that wins the turnover battle usually wins the game

Saturday was the first time I have watched a football game at Commonwealth since November 25, 2018. We had tickets to the Grey Cup that year then my Dad and I cancelled our seasons a few months later and haven't been back since until Saturday when my family of 4 went. I got tickets in the old section, not far from our old seats. Kind of weird seeing 4 different people in them. Pretty much everyone that I sat around for all those years are all gone. No one does all our chants anymore so that was kind of sad.

My thoughts on the game from the seats:
      - Defense was great. The Argos never seemed to get anything going. The odd time they did, the defense snuffed it out quickly or they caused a turn over which was great.
      - Oline I thought struggled the first half but was way better the second half and it resulted in the offense moving the ball.

      Other thoughts:
      - I was surprised at how little Elks stuff there is. Nothing around the stadium that I noticed. Nothing on the field. Nothing in the stands or on the side of buildings that I noticed. I saw they have Elks on the cheer leader signs but that was it from what I could tell.
      - Some mention of the word Elks by the announce but not a ton. No where near as much as I remember when I used to go to the games and they were the Eskimos.
      - I like the old fire truck being back. My teenaged boys like it, especially since the young guys in the truck had cannons for arms for mini footballs. While like seeing "Eskimos" on the side of the truck, I don't get why it's there if they aren't going to change the name back.

I enjoyed the game and so did my family. The fact it was a really nice day and they won of course helped but I came away with mixed feelings about it. I found the whole thing with the name really odd. They change the name to Elks which I'd say the majority of people didn't want and generally hates. They recognized the name is a real thing to a lot of people so they try to get rid of as much Elks as possible and sort of pretend it doesn't exist by throwing a ton of EE, Green and Gold or have subtle Eskimos things around like the truck. So as a long time fan and hater of the name changed, seeing Eskimos on the truck made me smile and even my oldest son who remembered going to games when they were the Eskimos laughed but it annoyed me some. They don't have anything Elks on the jerseys from what I can tell, nothing on the helmets and no Elks symbols around the stadium yet the cheerleaders want fans to yell Elks for a chant and the announcer will say "Touchdown Elks" then 30 seconds later the Eskimos fire truck is driving around. . Just felt like they were the Charlie Brown skit where the mean girl would pull the ball away at the last second. "Oh you want Eskimos back, here you... NOPE! Sucker!" So if you are going to have Eskimos around and pretend Elks doesn't exist, man up and change the name back otherwise just embrace the freaking name change and move on. I definitely did not like the change to the fight song. They did what they could I guess but telling me it's a tradition then changing the words of the traditional song I wasn't a fan of. Everyone around us sings Eskimos so it was just another Charlie Brown thing for me.

But regardless, it was a good experience for the most part.

One thing that really pissed me off though. My 25 yr season ticket holder plague was no where to be found. I went to the spot it was and they were all gone!
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

Agree with this assessment. I was a little annoyed in the first half that they weren’t pulling away with it despite being the better team and I think the team felt the same way because they came out in the second half with a bit of an “enough is enough” attitude and just absolutely dominated the Argos. That was great to see.

Happy to finally see improvements in the Red Zone game, I believe we were 100% in this one.

Biggest area for improvement that’s still needed on O is run blocking. Our interior still can’t seem to open up the A and B gaps consistently which is puzzling to me given the talent we have along the line. I don’t think we have a scheme issue as much as we’re just getting beat in our one on ones on interior runs. Although it did occur to me that Rank seems to be hesitating at the LOS a bit on those inside runs, instead of hitting the hole hard like Leake does when he gets his carries. I know Ranks vision and patience in the hole is what often time leads to his homerun strikes but sometimes I think he’d be better served to just run straight downhill and get 4-6 instead of looking for 60 and ending up with e TFL.

I went through a couple of the runs to see if I could figure out what was going on and on the one backfield loss O'Donnell just got flat out beat in space with the defender barely slowing up and was at the mesh point almost as the ball was given to Rank.

Yeah I thought O’Donnell had one of his tougher games as an Elk as he was beat clean on the Fajardo sack as well. I think it’s pretty clear that he’s battling with that knee injury at the moment.

Glad that you decided to attend the game and had a good family day of it. Bonus to get the win and have good weather.

I thought in the third quarter melee when the Argos were imploding and got called for unnecessary roughness that the Elks player went down kind of easy. But at least they got the call.

Also thought Noah Taylor had a game. Just saying.

I saw there was 22,583 listed as the attendance for the Argos game.

The team is pretty good. They were going up against a team where if a person is being honest, they should beat so for any non regular fan that wanted to see a win, very good chance they would win. Game was super early afternoon so you could get up at a nice time, go to the game and have your entire evening to do whatever else. Weather was about as good as it gets and might end up being the best game weather wise all year as given the time of year, the chances it will get any better or even match it might not be good. I was expecting more.

I was hoping for more as well but of the people I know that usually come there were at least a dozen or so that were on holidays or heading out to the lake for the weekend as there hasn't been many nice weekends to enjoy the boat or trailer they have.

We are making progress for sure but still have a ways to go to repair a relationship that hasn't been a priority to the team in a long time.

Was impressed with the pressure that our D line was able to get on Kelly and that's with some of our starters still on the injured list. Brandon Barlow, Tomari Fox, Jordan Williams were all playing before a number of the guys currently starting on the line. If they get healthy and back on the field you have to think that our defense gets even better. I know its still early to think this way but if we could hold onto first place in the West we would be 1 (home) game away from making it to the GC. Dare to dream.

Just checked I guess Barlow has an achilles injury so he's not coming back which is too bad as he is likely the best of the bunch.
