Edmonton forfeited a 2025 first round pick to get Mathis. I looked at the team site, he's not even listed on the roster, not in the injury lists or the practice squad. Is he even with the team anymore?

Meh, he was essentially a bonus 1st round pick for us in 2024 that turned out to be bust, happens every year. Easy to say in hindsight they should have saved the pick but at the time we needed young Canadians and he was a first round caliber prospect.Originally posted by Sectionq View PostEdmonton forfeited a 2025 first round pick to get Mathis. Disappointing but not crippling by any means.

Weird that he's not listed on the roster but if you look on the CFL page it lists him as on the reserves rosterOriginally posted by Sectionq View PostEdmonton forfeited a 2025 first round pick to get Mathis. He's had a few opportunities and has either had the dropsies or has come up injured. IIRC last year he got hurt stretching out for a pass and never came back after that. Can't remember if he did anything this past preseason. Maybe he turns it around like Justin McInnis who never did anything in Sask and got his career back on track with BC but I think he's at the showme state point with the current coaching staff so he had better start impressing in practice. As far as KJG is concerned based on his play I think it would be fair to take him out of the starting lineup and give Kettyle a chance as he was impressive in both the preseason and when he got an opportunity in mop up duty vs the Als a few weeks back.Originally posted by cmbuk View PostI asked on twitter a few weeks ago and he’s a healthy scratch most weeks
cant get in the team cos of kjg
mathis should be a monster in this league…

I think he was expected to have a break out year last season and that back injury early ended his seasonOriginally posted by adb View Post

think there is still a lot of legs in Mathis ( pardon the pun ) but as u say, wether it’s here or elsewhere remains to be seen
personally I love the guys frame and skillset

He strikes me as a guy who has all of the physical tools but seems a bit soft. Granted I haven’t watched him on every play but he doesn’t standout as a guy who’s running hard routes away from the play or getting his nose dirty and involving himself in the run game. The play you’re referencing where he hurt himself stretching out for a ball stood out to me at the time as an example of him lacking the physicality to play the game.Originally posted by adb View Post

I like his frame and skillset as well and that’s why I’m not upset that we used a high draft pick on him. Unfortunately three years in I just haven’t seen enough of the other stuff besides frame and skillset to win me over.Originally posted by cmbuk View Post

im 100 percent certain kgj starts cos c7 loves him .. end of
I don’t think kgj is involved enough for me…. Or impactful enough

Yeah I’m not cutting him now by any means, he’s good depth and he IS still young. I think he gets one more chance at some point but he’s gotta show that he’s improved during his time off the active roster.Originally posted by cmbuk View Post

He just needs to stop dropping the ball when he is wide open with no one near him. Adarius Bowman seemed to have one every so often as well but he made up for it by consistently catching for at least a 1000 yards a season and catching the occasional game winning TD but KJG is no AB so IMO he shouldn't be getting a pass which I feel he is currently getting.Originally posted by cmbuk View Post
