Re: 2021 Edmonton Oilers season thread

    Thoughts on Oilers off-season 2021?

Best forward group we have had in well over a decade but that defense is going to be an absolute gong show. And we are really. going with Smith/Koskinen again aren't we...

There could be a lot of Oiler games that finish 8-6 this season. I just hope we're the 8 most of the time.

Can't see Smith sustaining his numbers from last year, you just have to hope that Koskinen has a rebound year. They were talking on 1260 about Smith getting 40 starts to be effective but that would give Koskinen 40+ starts. The way he played last year, this would not be a good thing but upping Smiths numbers much and you risk burning him out.

Those two goalies in front of that D? I bet we miss the playoffs.

Agree, Smith had a year he won?t be able to repeat.

And Red Light Koskinen will repeat.

Blew a 2-goal lead...but at least we won.

Wait, I can't even post animated gifs now??? The new forum software is almost more broken than the football team is.

Oilers were the last team I needed on my parlay last night, glad they won but thanks for giving me a heart attack in the process you turkeys.

2-0. McDavid with a hatty against Calgary.

But the real story is Puljujarvi. Right after Calgary scored to make it a one goal game, JP took an outlet pass from Ceci and fired a laser past Markstrom to make it 4-2. Just absolutely beautiful to see this kid coming into his own after so many of us were writing him off as a bust.

Anyone care to share their thoughts on Evander Kane looking to be landing here? I remember Diesel saying that locker rooms need 1 prick in there. Might he be it without it being a distraction? Dude certainly has the skills.

The player is a perfect fit for what's missing in the top 9 and I'm not just talking the skill part. We still need a goalie upgrade though so there needs to be another move still.

As for the distractions. I understand the feeling a lot of people have about cancelling the Oilers because of his past and I also understand the worries of him in the room. I look at it this way. We likely can't afford him more than these 3-5 months anyways so if one guy can tear apart a dressing room in 3-5 months, the room was already a problem that needed a shakeup for next year so what's the difference.

Cancelling him outright, as some want to do, I have to ask the question as to why so many other skilled players get multiple chances, but he's somehow different. He's seems like an idiot that will have trouble follow him, but in each case there seems to be at least some possibility that he was just a big dumb jock with lots of money without the smarts to recognize the consequences of even being around those situations. I consider this as a possibility only because he's never actually had any charges stick and him getting custody over his wife suggests that it might not just be him, but could be the type of people he surrounds himself with.

So I will cheer for the team and reluctantly hope he's finally got his **** together and both he and the team benefit from this short term arrangement.

Still Dustin Schwartz as goalie coach?
