punt returner situation is becoming a massive joke. sad. I do not want to see Burnett back there again - no real knock on him - just I feel he's a tad bit more important on D. We can put anyone back there - Olineman included to fall forward 5 or so yards. Return game is a joke.

Ratio or not...it's something that needs to be fixed sooner than later. Having Charles or Burnett doing it worries me that they'll get clipped and then we're needing to find someone to replace them as well as a returner. Granted, we need to get some blocking schemes that actually open some holes before it's that big of a deal anyways.

I like what I'm hearing...we'll put Rottier and O'donnell back there and then have the st coach stand in the other team's endzone with a giant plate of burgers....they'll cut through that coverage team like no one's business

          Completely agree.

At least O' Donnell will run someone over and inflict some punishment.

If John White is on the roster, why not have him return kicks?? I know he fumbled a kickoff return in the Rider game, but it was on a hit that he was stripped - that is going to happen, he didn't play hot potato with the ball like Hamilton's returner did. If you trust him enough to be on the roster, then let him return kicks. I agree 100% that Burnett should not be exposed to injury or just plain worn out by returning punts (although falling forward for 5 yards is only so tiring).

I'm hoping that Livas' release is a sign that another, more capable return man will be signed very soon.

or maybe Billy White Shoes Johnson can come out of retirement and suit up for us I mean he's only 61 years old so he's actually younger than our back up QB. If nothing else he and Joseph can have a get off my lawn you kids yelling contest.

We seriously need a kick returner like honestly they don't have to be amazing just capable of fielding the ball and once in a while picking up some real yardage.

Well it's been a few years but I'll give it a shot...

I mean, I'm younger than 61 at least and my passport's good for the ratio!

According to the pre-game depth chart, Burnett and White are the kick returners for tomorrow's game. Hopefully White will have a good return or two to give Kavis enough confidence to use him on punt returns as well saving Burnett the wear and tear.

I believe I heard that White hadn't done any significant returning since high school. We've had some good college returnees that have tried and failed in the past few years, so I would suggest that White might be a bit of a longshot to be the saviour for our return game. I'm all for trying him, at least once the coaches see enough in practice to convince them that he's safe back there with a good shot at productive.

While it obviously has risks, there are numerous teams that have returnees that do double duty. Both Johnson and Washington in Wpg are key in their secondary, while Owens is the primary returner in Toronto. The Riders, I believe, work Dresser in occasionally returning as well. The risk of injury from those 7-8 touches a game is likely somewhat tolerable compared to the risks associated with going that much thinner on import depth by having to sit another import to get a specialist in there.
