Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.

Ha Ha Ha......the cons are like parents 'Don't do as I do do as I say.' They must have finished slipping guys into the senate that they wanted. How friggin hypocritical can you get.

If they wanted to do some real good they would introduce a bill to abolish that stupid, bloated, tax $ wasting joke old boys club. Just an added expense to have senate elections that will not change a thing, since the senate almost never flexes it's muscle.

Abolishing the Senate requires a constitutional amendment.

I agree that Harper shat the bed with Michel Fortier, but I'm not going to oppose this kind of bill over that.

Hmmmm soon we will be one with the states. All the senate has and ever will be is a rubber stamp. Whether we vote for them or not. It will not change a thing.

Actually, voting for senators will change things. The reason it's a rubber stamp is because they aren't elected, and therefore have no mandate to do otherwise (although that didn't stop Senate Liberals from trying to massively loosen the rules in the Accountability act, which the HoC had to fix).

One with the states? Where do you get that from?

In the article it states that the bill to limit terms in the senate is stalled because it is Liberal dominated. There are also 10 empty senate seats that Harper could fill with his buddies, which is well within his power but he is asking the Canadian people to do this instead. He is trying to increase democracy in Canada. I would welcome US style democracy. Term limits for the President, no minority goverments, although it can feel like one sometimes. Change in Canadian politics is thankfully coming.

I don't see how electing people to the senate will change anything. It is a waste of tax payers money and time to change what is there now. You get control of the senate by having power for years. That is they way it has always been. Tough luck to the Conservatives that all thier old boys have died or retired that used to be in there. But that is the way it is. What really bothers me is the fact that the Conservatives want to continuously change our Constitution. Leave it as it is. It has worked for years.

So you want independance then. We run our government based on commenwealth law. If you don't like it, move to the states. I see no reason to change it. Who cares how long a PM is in power for. Maybe if there was a better choice then people would make change. And minority governments work if the people in power know how to make it work. You have to please all that are out there.

Why should we have to move to the states if we don't like it. Canada's system needs to be updated. It's happening. Deal with it.

I can't believe people don't want an accountable senate. How could that possible be worse?

Sure, but even that has nothing to do with having an accountable Senate.

I agree with you 100% on the accountability of the senate though.
