HD DvD will win because they will allow porn to be made on HD DVD, while Blu Ray will not.

This might be a huge mistake. The porn industry is a huge slice of the pie (pun completely intended).

I was at the CES show in Vegas and while home A/V wasn't my main purpose of going, the general feel tends to be that manufacturers will probably make components that will support both formats.

So you'll get Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo players or what?

In that case, customer purchases of software (movies) on one brand or the other would determine who drops out of the market.

Unless every studio goes the way Warner just did with Blu-Ray on one side and HD-DVD on the other.

How expensive are the combo discs compared to single BR or HD-DVD?

Pretty much. Hitatchi, Panasonic and I can't remember the other one right now have invested in Blu ray so it's not like the old Beta vs VHS deal where one company was bucking the trend.

Well, from what I've seen by doing some research, more studios and manufacturers back Blu-Ray. But that doesn't guarantee a win. i suppose if I was a betting man, I'd bet on Blu-Ray.

That's why I don't think the PS3 is out of the console race, in spite of the fact it trails the 360 and Wii hevaily at this point.

                  Samsung is with Blu Ray.

I thought Hitachi and Panasonic were HD.

I feel Blu Ray will go the way of Beta. Sony is stupid with thier, buy this new technology stuff. They have the tech but will probably not let other companies develope the same type of products, hence the HD DVD.

I heard on the news that some hackers have managed to crack HD DVD encoding...but nothing on Blu Ray.

As Diesel already said, it's not like Beta. It's not Sony vs. everyone else. It's Sony AND everyone else.

Read where one of the biggies is working on a combo disk so it won't matter which player you have. 8 track anyone?

If you look at this weeks Best Buy flyer some of those companies are swinging both ways (Panasonic and Toshiba).

My PS3 plays both Blue Ray and up converts NTSC DVDs to HD. From what I understand the only thing it will not play is HD DVDs.
