    The Picton trial................

I don't get it, the evidence is strong, and they have two admissions from Picton, why is this going to trial?

Why are the Lawyers defending him as an innocent man? Isn't a lawyers job, if they know the person is guilty, only to make sure he has a fair trial?

Eight lawyers, 10 million in tax payers costs thus far?

80 million was spent gathering evidence.

This trial should last a week, not a year. It is no contest.

Flipping lawyers. Their advice should be for him to plead guilty. Especially with the admissions.

Because it is such a heinous crime he is going to get the maximum. Because it is such a high profile case the Crown going against the grain of sweetheart plea bargains are forced to prosecute. I would guess that the defense may have talked plea bargain but in this very, very , very rare case the crown would not budge on going for the max.

The crown would have liked nothing better than to have a coffee and some Timbits in a board room and drop 25 of the 26 charges in exchange for a guilty plea to one second degree murder charge. Unfortunately for them the public would go ballistic on this one if they did their usual. And as far as Pickton is concerned there would be no reason in the world to plead guilty.

Wouldn't it be smarter to convict him quickly on a murder 1 charge. The get him declared as a dangerous offender sometime down the road?

I wish he was in Texas.

This cretin is the precise reason why there should be flogging executions in this country.

If I said how I felt about this guy I would probably be flamed and banned in a hurry. But I don't think he worked alone.

Some pretty gruesome details coming out of this one already, and we are only on day 2 of the trial. I especially liked the revolver with a dildo taped to the end of it. By the time this is over, he may go down as the most gruesome serial killer in North American history.

With the evidence they have there isn't a need for a plea bargain. I think it is the lawyers job to do the right thing. They are only suppose to defend their client if he wants to plead innocent. I have a sneaky suspicion he was instructed to plead "not guilty" by his lawyers.

That's America and money talking. The same won't happen here.

Interesting take. I'm curious to hear your opinion on this now.

That may well be the case. I wouldn't be surprised if he had help, he doesn't seem like he sharpest tool in the shed. Even if he didn't work alone he still deserves a slow and pain-filled death. Now.
