    Agreed that it's crap, though of the 8 profs I've had, 6 have been male, 2 have been female...

    Only 3 of them were terrible, and both of the women were.

    Just saying .

    (I'm still doing homework. This is why procrastination sucks. Bah. Women + Hockey + Internet.. I can't help it!)

      My mom is a prof at U of C so this hits a little closer to home for me then it may most. She says she doesn't really expect anything to change anytime soon, either.

      Another Lazy Sunday spent on Esksfans.com, can't go wrong with that

        I have some friends at the U of C... 7 degrees of seperation anyone?

        I agree with the sentiment... my comments were to stir the pot more than anything.

        Nothing wrong with the Lazy Sunday, but leaving this until now was absolutely retarded considering that I knew I was going to spend a good two hours on the phone where I wouldn't get anything accomplished.

        Oh well. Life goes on.

          Students are supposed to be up until 3-4 every night aren't they?

              Most students are now female – a situation that's existed since 1988, they note.

              ---> not the case at U of A!!! haha and im in a faculty generally female rich, education is at least 50-50

              also i sometimes wonder about the motivation of female students... I mean lots that i talk to say they just wanna pound through the degree and get married have kids etc. If this is happening to Undergrads, there will be less Graduate studiers of the female persuassion, less Phd candidates that are female etc.
              IMO its not a sociteal thing but a choice that many females make which skew these stats
              The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

                      And yet at some point they may still have children, may stay at home, may put their careers on hold for a length of time. It's not hard to figure out that this pluts them at a disadvantage to men who don't take three, five, ten, twelve years out of their career to raise children.
                      IMO this professor situation isn't necessarily systematic discrimination so much as it is a biological human quirk. Men can't get pregnant-women can. The majority of parents who stay at home to raise children are female. Therefore their careers suffer. It's not right or wrong-just the way it is.

                        No where in that article do I read how many are applying. 19% is probably a good number. To me that article has no substance. It doesn't explain a thing. This story doesn't back anything it's arguement up with numbers, it is vague.

                        That's similar to saying less than 10% of females make up the number of firefighters. And then putting a title on it that it is crap.

                        I've only had two female profs, the rest were male. Perhaps this is the norm for the proffession.

                              Equal work should equal equal pay, right? But what about signority? These studies never seem to take that into account, so I'm not sure how accurate they are. Women have only been accepted as being equal to men in a societal sense for less than 30 years. In 1975 a women needed permission from her husband to take money out of a joint bank account.
