2001 left more questions than any other movie I've ever seen (or at least it's close) and it's also one of the best movies out there. Even if you've read the book, you don't know what's going on at the end. I see a sequel coming...
But presenting answers to those questions is what makes a blockbuster movie. Without those answers, that movie had no story and no plot. It's about a guy who escorts a girl to some ship. That's it......not much there unless you get into details.....IMHO anyway...
Why is the world infertile?
What makes this woman special?
Does the world survive? Does humanity begin to procreate again???
If his moral character isn't good enough for the goddamn Saskatchewan Roughriders, it sure as hell isn't good enough for the Green and Gold.
Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.
not surprised, it's pretty much the same boring movie with different characters.
Same as what? I thought Crash was a fantastic movie.....

The Departed is a choice I can live with, since it was a fantastic film. I really think that The Queen was better, but was happy that the over-rated Babel didn't win.

To me, that wasn't the point of the movie. Okay, yes...in the larger more macro scale of things that WOULD matter...but the movie's brillance came from the portrayal of the drama in the character's lives around the time in question.
Most (99%) movies are there to tell a beginning to end story for the AUDIENCE. Not this movie.
It was to provide you with the privilege of seeing the drama and emotion and it's impact on the character's lives for the brief window in time that lapses as you watch the movie.
Because it's so rare in that sense, that's why I found it to be fascinating. It was if the movie didn't "care" that I was watching at all....
Of course, this is the artsy fartsy consideration of what made it a good movie. From a "I want to know what the hell is going on and what's the final resolution to the issues at hand standpoint", the movie blew chunks

I agree, for me...it was that they presented such a unique story and they pulled it off and made it realistic. (if you were paying attention to the clues earlier in the movie, it says that the infertility is a result of a war which started with the US invading Iraq...this could either be mass chemical or radioactive elements). For me, the journey was well-written, and I do expect a sequel, it leaves it open for one.
I watched Children of Men again, and I still think it's a great movie, one of the best all time. It explains everything, you might have to watch it a second time, I'm betting the book explains it more clearly though.
