Re: Conservative Take Sizeable Lead Over Liberals
Originally posted by BeerfishI wouldn't vote for them anyways but I'm all in favour of income splitting if they put in a single persons deduction that will be of equivelant benefit. Otherwise screw it.
You know, you often go into how "single people get screwed"...but I don't buy it in all instances.
Take things like CPP, OAS, GIS, Disability, AISH, etc, and there are others -- the amount of benefit for a married couple is less than that sum of the benefit for two individuals on their own. that is, per capita amounts are LESS for a couple than they are for an individual.
Another example are that qualifications for most subsidies are based on family income -- where there is only a single person (rather than a couple), the single's "family income" is his own which is much less than a couple, so that single will get subsidized whereas the couple may not.

Re: Conservative Take Sizeable Lead Over Liberals
I think the Liberal Flip Flop on the Terror Bill also hurt them.
HULLO...you were the freakin' party that introduced the piece of legislation in the first place. And now that the Conservatives want to extend YOUR LEGISLATION, you decide to vote it down?
How does that make any sense?
