Slides for guitar

I'm going to buy a slide some time soon but have no knowledge of slide at all.

I already play a lot in Open G so I at least understand how notes go together on that but do not know what to look for in a slide.

Can someone give me some tips?

A glass one sounds smoother and less scratchy than metal ones. Decide which finger you want to slide with as well. The trickiest part to being a good slider is the right hand muting of strings you don't want to hear.

Coolness. Thanks Diez. I think I'd most likely use my ring finger so as to still bar chords.
