    Bioshock!!!!

Alright 360 owners (and the few of us with smokin hot computers). Bioshock comes out next week.

Xbox Live has a demo to download. I command you to download it and try it. It is, quite simply, the BEST looking and most atmospheric game to date.

It plays great. It looks great. It IS great.

Game ships on the 21st for 360 and PC.

PC demo will be out this week.

Try it, or consider yourself a loser.

Have you got the PC to run it? Hefty specs (see above).

If not, just get the 360 version.

More reviews coming in. All 10/10. Every single one except PC gamer, which gave a 9.5.

Here's a quote from the EuroGamer review.

The hours spent playing this masterpiece were the perfect encapsulation of why videogaming is such a favourite waste of time for so many of us. Thrilling, terrifying, moving, confusing, amusing, compelling, and very very dark. BioShock isn't simply the sign of gaming realising its true cinematic potential, but one where a game straddles so many entertainment art forms so expertly that it's the best demonstration yet how flexible this medium can be. It's no longer just another shooter wrapped up in a pretty game engine, but a story that exists and unfolds inside the most convincing and elaborate and artistic game world ever conceived.

BioShock is the ultimate rarity: not only does it live up to its lofty promise, but exceeds it through simple, old fashioned talent and imagination - not to mention verve, style, class, wit, and sheer bloody-minded ambition. It takes the tired, worn-out FPS genre by the scruff of the neck, reinvents and bend it out of shape in such a breathtaking fashion that it's going to take something very special to top this in the months and years ahead.

This one looks like it will be Game of the Year.

Soooo glad I built that new PC back in May.

                    IGN's review is up. 9.7/10

Played the demo again last night. I keep finding new ways to approach things, and new items I never found before. There's more than one way to waste a splicer. I used the incinerate plasmid on a splicer, who then ran towards a pool of water to put himself out. I then used the electro plasmid and electrified the water. the result was pure gold.

                      Re: Bioshock!!!!

I'm about 4 hours into this game now, and can give some early impressions.

Graphics: Pretty much the best looking game I've ever seen. The art deco style of Rapture is so well done that I'd say that this is the coolest and best looking environment I've ever seen in a video game. And yes, I've played Gears of War.

Gameplay: I'm playing the PC version, but have also played through the 360 demo several times. On both systems the game plays great. Very pick-up-and-play. I prefer the precision of the PC's mouse and keyboard, but the 360 controller still works great. The PC version also has a different interface, one that's made and geared specifically toward the PC. It makes sense.

Story: You're on a plane that crashes in the Atlantic in 1960. You survive and swim to this lighthouse that's mysteriously right in the middle of the ocean. You go in and end up finding this massive underwater city named Rapture that was built shortly after WWII. Rapture was build by a man named Andrew Ryan and followers of his Randian objectivist ethos. In the end everything went wrong because the people went mad from overuse of genetic modifications that were discovered. Anything beyond that is spoilers. But the story so far is top notch.

                      Early rating: 9/10
