Sad story.

This part did shock me.

Colleen Howe was ahead of her time. It was Colleen, not Gordie, who forced a raise out of Red Wings management upon discovering her husband, who captured six scoring titles, six MVP awards and four Stanley Cups, was earning half as much as some of his teammates

In the time when Howe played, can you imagine...well...the balls she must have had to do that? Even more surprising is that management didn't pay him more on their own accord!

I think this is part of the reason we see the types of salaries in hockey that we see today. In those days, IMHO, the players really got "hosed."

I grew up a Wings fan., My fave player was Norm Ullman because my dad knew him. I loved Howe, Delvecchio and the whole works.

Folks here are correct, it was Mrs. Howe and Lindsay who went to war on behalf of the players. Today's players have a lot to be thankful for that these two primarily fought for player rights.

I think every player who has played in the last 10 years should make a huge donation to the Colleen Howe Foundation. She's one of the reasons they're rich today.
