    Homophobe or Witch Hunt?

    Now, what this guy said was unacceptable...but...anyone else say anything 17 years ago that, if caught ion tape, would perhaps disqualify you for office?

    I am definitely not a homophobe, but I've used language like that in my life. Have you? Do you consider yourself a homophobe or bigot?

    The guy apologized, yet people still want his resignation.

    Should he resign?

    I saw the article in the journal and didn't read the whole thing. I can say without reading further that he should not resign and that an apology is sufficient, heck really i don't see the need to apologize for things like that either, at least not big official apoligies. (With this one addendum. If he or members of his party were calling for other people resignations before he was elected for semi frivilous stuff then he should resign.)

    Although it is 'just politics' I can't stand the double standards we see all the time in this regard.

      Given what is going on in Saskatchewan right now with the David Ahenakew and the FSIN (Federation os Saskatchewan Indian Nations) I really think that he has no choice in the matter. People were all over the FSIN for reappointing Ahenakew, and there reasoning was it happened 5 years ago and he has appoligized. Now his comments are much worse then what was caught on this tape, but also remember that this happened in a government office and not at some bar or persons house after work.

      The Conservative PArty would be seen as hypocrates (if they are not already depending on political beliefs) if they did not kick Mr. Lukiwski out of caucus, given the pressure that they put on the FSIN.

        This is bogus. Comments made that long ago should have no effect on what is going on now. He made a mistake, which happens to all of us but because he is a higher up then the rest of us it is frowned upon. We might as well go back 30 years and find out if someone called Trudeau a frog and start re-hashing stupid crap. Maybe I'm just bitter because Lukiwski is the MP in my area.

        But I agree with Budha. This would look bad because of the FSIN thing. Riots!!

            As far as I know there have been no calls for Mr. Wall to resign. I have not read the entire transcript (in todays Leaderpost), but apparently his comments and actions were more directed at Roy Romanow and his Ulrainian Heritage.

            Had the whole thing with the FSIN not come up I would agree with the people who say let him stay. Given the fact that the Conservatives had made such a big deal about the FSIN, threatening to remove funding until Mr. Ahenakew was kicked out, they need to do something. Kicking him out of cacaus until after the next election would cover this.

              He'll probably be forced to resign...but on the other hand, what Wall said about Romanow was actually kinda funny.

                In the age of youtube and digital video... methinks there will be a whole lot of stuff like this in the coming decades... you never know what's caught on tape and whose seen it nowadays

                    here is the worst thing that I read in that article:

                    "They are words that should not be allowed to be spoken today, either publicly or privately.

                    whoa,whoa,whoa......now I can understand back peddling to the Nth degree to try and save your gig from this BS witch-hunt, but freedom of speech is one of the most valued aspects of our society.

                    What is the old adage? "I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will fight to the death your right to say it"......?

                    Wrong or right, he can say whatever he wants, and an apology is barely even warranted IMO.... not after 17 freakin' years...

                    If he no longer believes that then maybe he really shouldn't be in office.

                        Sounds like more Liberal witch hunt BS to me. Quick, everyone think of the worst things you've said over a few pints with your fellas...racist jokes, homophobic remarks, stereotypical imitations. You do it to get laughs from people, not because you're literally a racist or a homophobe. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

                              I could see if he said it yesterday then yeah, get him out but saying it 17 years ago is brutal. They should go back another 5 years just to see what other kinds of nuggets they can find.
