    Are You Friggen Kidding Me????

Watching the news right now and they just had a story about a high risk offender just being released and living in Edmonton. He just finished a 9 year sentence for dragging a 7 year old girl into the woods, sexually assaulting her, hitting her in the head with a rock, and leaving her for dead. How that is just a 9 year sentence is absolutely beyond. Absolutely disgusting.
Part of this guy's parole documents mentions that while on parole, he would walk through parks with teddy bears. The second he was found doing that, he should have been put back in jail for good.

Why do guys like this get a second chance? Why do they have ANY rights?

Unfortunately, the answer is that for the last 40 years we have sent a score of politicians to Ottawa who said that "rehabilitation" not "punishment" was the answer. Of course, they are dead wrong. Including their victims.

These ideas have become so deeply ingrained in the Canadian consciousness that they are almost impossible to root out. It will be many years, if ever, that we drag ourselves out of the "no responsibility, he didn't mean it" society but I will also add that Americans tell me that their system talks tough but is ultimately no better.... the Brits tell me the same thing--- sigh

Here's another sickening story for people in the Edmonton area. Remember Shane Rolston who was murdered by party thugs in Sherwood Park? His killer, a super-creep called Christoper Griffiths was let out of jail after just 2 years under mandatory release at the 2/3 mark of his sentence. The parole board noted that they had no choice under the law but also said that Griffiths had no remorse or insight into his crime. He's probably getting stoned in his parent's house tonight as I write this message while he and his friends have some red wine and joke about how they killed Rolston in cold blood. This, unfortunately, is our justice system. Griffiths parents never taught him that to kill is unacceptable, even if you have been "dissed" by the party host.

I also remember that there was some other goof here on these Esksfans.com threads who came on to defend some idiot named "Johnny" something or other who had also helped to murder Rolston. He also thought that this was all in good fun.

I'm am so furious right now. I don't think I have been this riled up in a loooong time.

I admit, I do believe that there are some people who commit crimes that can be rehabilitated. There are certain people, however, that shouldn't be even given the chance to be rehabilitated. They don't deserve the chance to change. This waste of life is one of those.

Bingo. What this court system needs to do is determine if someone in custody has taken the steps to rehabilitate themselves. If not, throw their ass back in jail. Plenty of people spend one time in jail, leave and make a life for themselves. Of course, hardcore cons never seem to mention this part. Only when someone falters. Not that the jails in Canada right now are a great place to rehab with the complete lack of programs that have been cut over the past few years and the free-for-all system that exists. Prison isn't called con-college for nothing...

Until the government looks at improving the jail system you will continue to see people re-offend.

Those who commit violent/sexual crimes against children have no redeeming qualities. Zero. Their rehab should be at the tip of a hollow point bullet.

I'd say castration works just as well...

A bullet would be better... the persians used to castrate men so that their whole world revolved around killing.

Yup, that I would have to agree with...

I'm not a fan of punishment for the sake of revenge/justice....people should only be locked up if they are a danger to society, which this man obviously is...and they shouldn't be let out until they are deemed to no longer pose a threat to society.

What the man did was terrible, and if he's walking through parks with a teddy bear then perhaps the 'justice' system should look at putting him back behind bars where he will no longer pose a threat to anyone.

If a person is locked up for say 30 years, that person going to be totally useless to society. Just put that person out of its misery (quick and painless). That would be the most humane thing to do. I would shrivel up and die if I was locked up in a cage for that long.

I think a couple years in jail would be really rewarding. As long as I was in solitary confinement. I wouldn't want anyone ruining my time. All I would have to do is read, work out, and think. I could really get some stuff done without having the responsibilities of the real world.

Of course, not everyone would agree with me. In think the jail system needs to be rebuilt. Right now it turns first time criminals into career criminals, and doesn't reform the ones who need to be reformed. Not everyone should have the same type of stay, there should be different prisons that offer different things for different types of people. Right now it's too bogged down with illusions of justice for it to do its job.

I'd say sending them to Saskatchewan to live out the rest of their lives works well too!

Honestly, the only way that laws will get changed is if its the kids of politicians getting raped and murdered...

                            Yup.
We can complain about it all we want but nothing will happen until we get a government in there who has enough of a majority to actually change the laws.

Get use to it Spec, I have witnessed a lifetime of BS like that. It is called the Canadian Justice System.

Trudea didn't help with his Charter of Rights and we have had too many bleeding heart Liberal governments over the eyars.
