Quite true, but at a certain point it sorta becomes a chicken or egg issue... it's hard to tell the rest of the world to do something, when you're not doing it. Either someone major has to bite the bullet and lead the way and hope others follow (which may very well be a fools errand)... or we play chicken with whatever the consequences may be.

There isn't really a good answer

I would agree, except that in the west we have made significant progress environmentally. Nobody can claim that we're asking others to do things we aren't. The year I was born (1971) things were different. Recycling, scrubbers on smoke stacks, regulation, green products and vehicle fuel efficiency are just some of the many examples I could give regarding our progress.
