    Powerline WiFi Adapters

Ok, so we've recently switched over from Shaw to Telus for cable and internet.
Our wifi/modem is in my wife's office on the main floor and her computer is plugged directly into it.
They gave us a wifi extender that's in the same office and gets us a pretty good signal in the top floor and the basement. Except for my (and I hate this term but) man cave. We have to keep doors shut on both offices because our cats love to eat wires for some f'ing reason and I really don't want them jumping around my trophy cabinet or other football memorabilia anyways...but anyways.
I can get a decent signal just to browse FB or this site etc. But when I try to do anything big like watch movies or play WoW - it doesn't have enough oomph. It gets about 6mbps when upstairs plugged into the modem my wife is getting 65+...
We had a dlink powerline adapter before that solved the problem just fine but for some reason since we switched over, I can't get the dang thing to work. Wondering if anyone has some tips or tricks? The d-link website is essentially useless with their FAQ section. I've tried different outlets in the same room, no luck. I know they still work because I've plugged them in on the same level of the house and all green.

    Anyone?

    Re: Powerline WiFi Adapters

I'm in a house built in the 70s that has zero connections in the wall for cable ( I'm on shaw) , and I have to feed the wires thru the vents from the basement for any room to have cable or Internet. The internet hooked up in a room on the west side, and the family room/ den is on the east side of the house and I get zero wifi there. Its super annoying. I've tired a repeater that plugs into the socket, but It was pretty much garbage. I have read you might be able to turn an old router, into a slave router and extend the signal to other parts of the house No idea if it works or how to do it....

Yeah our place was built in 2000 and when we were with Shaw the powerline adapter worked just fine. I know I'm probably just not doing something right but it's kind of frustrating. It's a lot of cable to thread through a lot of ducting to get from the upstairs to downstairs...ugh.

When Telus set up mine they they split up they put the extender at the opposite end of the house from the main box/wifi signal.

Works really well for everything internet.

About my only complaint is that local streaming media can occasionally lag if the receiver isn't hard wired (as the computer I use as a media server isn't hardwired either). I guess I should just hardwire the server, but its on a different floor and I'm too lazy.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

I think the real question is "where are the pics of your man cave"?

Yeah, I've tried. No clue what the issue is and no help from vBulletin. I'm at a loss.
