I feel sorry for the Federal Green Party

Unbelievably, I am finding myself agreeing (on the surface, at least) with more and more of the policies of the Federal Green Party...so much so, that I would consider voting for the guy in my riding!

But here's my debate.

I'm in Edmonton Stratcona and it's going to be a fight for Jaffer to retain his seat (it's always been a close fight in my riding).




Even though I like the Green's policies, the fact remains that I don't want the Liberal or NDP candidate to win... (I generally support conservative policies). In the event that I DO vote Green -- for a guy that has no hope of winning -- that may mean that Jaffer would lose and an untenable situation would have occurred.

In the end, I'll likely vote conservative since my riding is so close.

Do any of you have that problem? IMO...the Greens NEED to sink all their cash into ONE riding where they might be able to win...if for no other reason than to get their party leader involved in the debates so that other Canadians FINALLY get exposed to some of their policy ideas.

That, and it wouldn't hurt to drop the "Green" label... Like the conservatives, that party has come a long way and (IMO) their status as a "joke party" from previous elections comes back to haunt them.

Do any of you have that problem? IMO...the Greens NEED to sink all their cash into ONE riding where they might be able to win...if for no other reason than to get their party leader involved in the debates so that other Canadians FINALLY get exposed to some of their policy ideas.

That, and it wouldn't hurt to drop the "Green" label... Like the conservatives, that party has come a long way and (IMO) their status as a "joke party" from previous elections comes back to haunt them.

But that being said, they get money per vote for the next election. I do agree that they could change their name to something that doesn't have "granola tree-hugger" written all over it. Something like the "Sustainability Party" or something...I know it's weak but someone can come up with something better.

The Green party get no sympathy from me. Why?

1) They got millions in funding yet chose not to focus that money where they had a chance. They decided to go 308. That was dumb.
2) Their leader, Jim Harris is a petty, obtuse, abrasive jerk.
3) Global warming is a scam. It was zero in Delhi last week. people freezing to death in the streets.

Global warming is badly named. The polar ice caps are melting at an astounding rate, but that doesn't mean the whole world gets warmer. For us, it means milder winters and summers, which I hate.

I've met 3 of the 4 other national leaders on numerous occasions mate.

Martin is actually a rather nice fellow. He inspires loyalty among his followers. Many of his staff aren't too terribly nice. Martin is a Liberal, and by definition is a person willing to say anything to get into power. Being nice isn't enough. Stock Day is nice too.

Harper is also a very nice follow. He doesn't tend to get petty, but also tends to get angry.

Duceppe is a classy guy. Very friendly, and knows how to manipulate people.

Harris is just a jerk.

I also live in Edmonton - Strathcona, and while the race is a lot closer than other ridings in Alberta, (i.e. the Conservative wins by less than 10,000 votes ) if you vote for someone else, it still probably won't make a lick of difference. In the last election, Jaffer ran against some pretty high profile candidates (that is Debby Carlson for the Liberals and Malcolm Azania for the NDP) and still managed to win with 39% of the vote. The Liberal and NDP candidates this time around have much lower profiles.

This riding has been Tory blue since 1972, and I can't possibly see that changing.

2) I haven't seen any real evidence of this but have not watched him clsoely.
3) Take a look at the average temperatures of the earth, the average temps around here over the last 10-20 years and take a look at the melting of the ice caps. global warming is no scam look at the facts. What the cause is of this warming is definetly up for debate, to say global warming is a scam is a foolish statment.

I also live in Strathcona. I think the your main worry in this riding is from the NDP (who I will be voting for.) The Libs have a much less high profile candidate this time and as we all know the liberals are on the outs nation wide. Last time Jaffer won by a reasonably large margin (3000 or 5000 I think) but the Liberals and NDP were almost even so a switch from one party to the others thus not splitting the vote could be troulbe for Jaffer. As for the Green party, they need that one seat breathrough to get established (much like the reforms and Deb Grey). This is most likely to take place in BC probably. They have certainly broadened their appeal by coming up with a reasonable platform that still focuses on their core beleifs but takes into account other things.

I find it funny how the definitions change each time a theory taken as gospel is de-bunked. Nasa's climate data paints a picture that is much different than the Sierra club's.

308 ridings. I mean they didn't concentrate their cash. they spread it thin...and will get zero seats as a result.

Look at it this way. If you have a weather station outside a city in 1950, chances are that weather station has been overtaken by urban srawl. Tempertaures in the city are always a degree higher than outlaying areas. Plus there's solar activity, etc. Antarcitca is actually getting cooler, with the exception of the peninsula, which only accounts for 5% of its landmass. It is a scam mate. I have looked at the facts. If more people did, less people would believe this junk.
