The only thing is that if Athletes win that amount of cash they may just quit the sport afterwards and live off of the cash for a while.

....because winning 100K means you can stop working for a few years

Who said anything about quitting work... you shouldn't put words in my mouth.

Nope, I'd rather see them just increase the overall funding for all amateur sports
I told those f***s down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!

even quitting work for a while, most of the athletes don't have high paying jobs, they probably have debts to pay off...the money would certainly be enough to make life comfortable, but they wouldn't quit the sport for a few years.

I can guarantee you some of the Athletes would consider it and likely do it.

The problem is that other countries are doing it. Because they are, we need to. But I don't think it should be legal for anyone to do....
I officially retract my vote for DDS as Prime Minister. He's clearly incompetent.

I say yes. This way they can take this money and put into more training, etc for other events and such leading up to the next Olympics.

Absolutely. Amateur athletics is ridiculously underfunded, they should take any money they can.

They wouldn't stop playing their sport if they were rewarded for it. Would you? Say you're Jen Heil, and have 150 Gs in the bank in your early twenties for being a great athlete, the best in the world at what you do. You don't stop. If anything, you take the cash and put it towards training or taking some time off work so you have more time to train.

I agree, but I feel that they should get a bonus for winning, they should get something even if they come in 30th out of 40.
Through the thick and the Thin I will bleed GREEN and GOLD.

Hey, didn't you think that a person could live off a few hundred bucks a year if you were invalid? (See Bertuzzi thread).

The best way to increase our medal haul is simple. Pay athletes to train.

It is embarrassing, to me, to see commercials showing our Olympic Athletes that have to work at McDonalds or Home Depot full time to support themselves...so, you work a 6 - 8 hour shift and THEN have to go train for 3 - 4 hours.

Can you imagine how much better our athletes would be if they got to train 5 - 6 hours a day because they didn't have to work because their was adequate funding such that it wasn't needed for them to work to support themselves???
