Re: East Coast Seal Hunt.
Agreed.Originally posted by Muley69I seriously think that for many of them, their opposition to the hunt has little basis more than "the seals look cute".
They should be demonstrating at KFC if they were at all concerned about animal life. But chickens are ugly and no one cares. I wonder if seal tastes like chicken?

Exactly. And it's an inhumane way of killing an animal.Originally posted by jcrMeh...unless you're going to keep it as a pet or eat it, the leave it alone. No need to wear it.
Cotton looks good. So does silk. Polyester makes fleece. Who needs baby seal?I officially retract my vote for DDS as Prime Minister. He's clearly incompetent.

Re: East Coast Seal Hunt.
Hey, I have tons of standards. Even double standards.
Two things...
1. Seals are cute.
2. We don't eat them.
Weak, I know...but political careers have been built on less.
Take MoneyGuy for example......

The baby's aren't culled.....they can't be killed until they have gained their grey spots and lost their white coat (harp seals)......Originally posted by Sgt. NukeExactly. And it's an inhumane way of killing an animal.

They are like any other form of wildlife in that when their numbers get too high, they need to be culled to keep the remaining strong and healthy as well as preserving available food sources for the species.
The numbers are at the highest level IIRC since they have been taking record of population and the amount allowed to be taken is the lowest ever.
The irony is the PETA saps who say they have the best interests of the animals contradict themselves by fighting a war that would lead to overpopulation and weaken the entire species.....Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.

Re: East Coast Seal Hunt.
Killing is killing because we are humans, we dominate the planet, so we can kill whatever we want. We have to deal with the consequences of depleting a food resource if we kill too much. There are a few things to take into consideration for this.
Animal cruelty....nope. Seal bashing may seem barbaric, but the way you do it, you hit the seal in the brain, and it dies right away...no cruelty. It doesn't really matter what you do with it after, as long as the killing is harmless. IMO, anyway.
purpose....why are we killing seals. If it's for food, I'm all for it, but if it's for clothes and coats and all that jazz, then I think it's unneccessary, unless you are living in the wild and need the clothing to survive.
I agree with the comparison that people might think it's cruel because baby seals are cute. but, that goes along with my other argument as to how the killing is done and after that it doesn't matter
In conclusion, I'm all for it if it's for food, or for something useful, but if it's for luxury, then I am opposed.
I'm sorry, I must add this too...Last edited by Numberz; 11-20-2007, 09:44 PM.
