Still think it won't happen here?

    Scary.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

I think the scariest part is how young these people are. You are living in Canada and things are so bad for you?

It's because young people are the ones most likely to buy into the propoganda, especially when they're told they're getting the short end of the stick.

Just look at the Bloc and PQ in Quebec, the majority of their supporters are much younger than the makeups of other parties supporters.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

We've just been very spoiled on this side of the pond with there being relatively few acts of terrorism... throughout most of the developed world such acts are unfortunately quite common, just off the top of my head I recall major incidents in England, Spain and Japan in the not so distant past.

Anyone who actually thinks it can't happen here is just being naive... we've just been very lucky, as it's almost impossibly easy for groups or individuals to commit henous acts should they want to.

And people wonder why there is racial profiling in anti terrorist monitoring......

Sad truth. A small number of extremists dirtying the name of their entire heritage.

Re: Still think it won't happen here?

Interesting to say the least. But am I going to go freak out and resort to "duck and cover" videos? - I think not. I woke up this morning and CBC Radio 1 news was on way too late - so I was thinking...9/11 or 3/11 or 7/7 all over again...then found it was a news conference, and well that was fine.

I do live just down the street from a mosque, and I'm just south of Toronto's little India (South Asian as well - Pakistani, & Bangladeshi). The mosque is quite conservative and not reactionary at all. It's normal to see skullcaps and long shirts/garb on men. The suburban mosques I've heard though tend to be where the more reactionary imams are...for what it's worth.

It may happen here - it may not. Life goes on, you just put up with stuff living in a major international centre. I was in Paris where they sealed the train station lockers since there had been bombings. I got frustrated looking for a garbage can in London - later understanding due to the IRA they don't have many.

As for the subway being targeted...I read that there was no plan for that. Besides, the transit union did just as good of a job on monday shutting down the entire city's system with a wildcat strike - but people stuck it out and got to work (some even walked 16 km to work!).

I seriously doubt that terrorists would go after Alberta (and if they did one of the only thing I think they'd maybe consider would be refinery row). So those people in Purple Springs, Alberta or Climax, Saskatchewan that think the 'terrists' are out to get them...get over yourselves.

The Oil sector would definitely be a target

It would be...however unless they were homegrown terrorists from Calgary or Edmoton, I don't see that happening due to distance and national fear factors.

They'd possibly achieve more closer to major US media centers, e.g. refineries or chemical plants in Sarnia (leading to a Midwest US freakout), Montreal or Canada's biggest refinery in Saint John, NB (Eastern Seabord freakout)...or the west coast freakout with refineries in Burnaby...

It's a dated book now but find Yussef Bogdanski's Target: The West. It was Written 16 years ago and he was chillingly bang on in his then predictions of the following:

                          Institutionalization of the terrorist system

                          Force structure/ training structure/ recruitment

Iran's role in public and in secret as the hub of the spoke.

What was to come in Afghanastan, Sudan, and Iraq's rise and fall.

                          The pyramid command system

The islamic terror network's expansion throughout southeast asia.

How that network siphons funds from legitimate islamic sources in north america.

He even went as far as to name student organizations, religeous groups, aid groups etc in Canada including ones in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary that are headed by known (at that time ) terrorist organizers. Many honest hard working people in this country have no idea that a portion of the contributions they make for schooling, overseas aid, infrastructure here and abroad, get siphoned into the network.

It's a very technical read, lots of detailed information.
