I watched this movie when it came out in Quebec, and I have to say that it's one of the best Canadian films I've seen... which, I guess, isn't difficult considering the quality of Canadian cinema. So I'll say that it's one of the better comedies I've seen overall. Not an original concept - it's a Quebec/Cdn bend on the tried comedic police partners theme. Unfortunately, as the above NP story states, it "flew under the radar" in english Canada in other than in Toronto and Ottawa.
Too bad, it really is a good movie (albeit a bit corney - but what Cdn film isn't?), and as the NP reports, it's the highest box-office grossing Cdn film of all time. Perhaps the problem is that promoters in the west see it as "too Quebec", although it's half-eng/half-fr with eng subtitles.
So, my (mostly) western Cda-residing esksfans, I recommend this movie to you. French not necessary, but it will enhance the experience if you do have some comprehension. Some familiarity of Quebec culture is recommended, but not necessary either. Just know that cusses like 'tabernak' and 'chalice' are used with a passion in QC. BTW, as an attempt to bridge the language divide, the murder story is a hockey theme!
