    Bon Cop, Bad Cop

    http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/n...d5&k=14203&p=2

I watched this movie when it came out in Quebec, and I have to say that it's one of the best Canadian films I've seen... which, I guess, isn't difficult considering the quality of Canadian cinema. So I'll say that it's one of the better comedies I've seen overall. Not an original concept - it's a Quebec/Cdn bend on the tried comedic police partners theme. Unfortunately, as the above NP story states, it "flew under the radar" in english Canada in other than in Toronto and Ottawa.

Too bad, it really is a good movie (albeit a bit corney - but what Cdn film isn't?), and as the NP reports, it's the highest box-office grossing Cdn film of all time. Perhaps the problem is that promoters in the west see it as "too Quebec", although it's half-eng/half-fr with eng subtitles.

So, my (mostly) western Cda-residing esksfans, I recommend this movie to you. French not necessary, but it will enhance the experience if you do have some comprehension. Some familiarity of Quebec culture is recommended, but not necessary either. Just know that cusses like 'tabernak' and 'chalice' are used with a passion in QC. BTW, as an attempt to bridge the language divide, the murder story is a hockey theme!

I'll see it on video for sure. I never got to it, and it never got a wide release. It must have been too intelligent for the masses.

I saw that - I thought it was great.

Love the scene where they're conjugating the F-word as many different figures of speech.

I think he's American but eventually got his Canadian citizenship and speaks our other official language - I respect that already! But ya, great actor both on stage and screen.

The "Vive le quebec livre" love-scene had me in stitches.

It's the highest grossing so far... TPB might well break it (remains to be seen b/c it's a recent release) since it could possible have a much wider appeal, especially in the American market. It would be great to see TBC do well in US theatres.

You do know it was filmed in Toronto?

It is high on Quebec culture?

I watched an ET Canada episode on the filming of this movie, and most of it was filmed in Toronto. Kind of ironic.

A lot of locations were in Montreal and Ottawa... I believe most of the studio work was in Toronto. It was a Quebec-Ontario co-production. Even if it is ironic, it's nothing surprising. A large chunk of Braveheart was shot in Ireland. Besides, I don't think Bon Cop can be considered "high" Quebec culture....
