Another bush league move by the CFL

So today's LP reports that any player signed before the 2006 Grey Cup game will not count towards the salary cap. What kind of bull**** is this? If we are implementing an SMS, then let's do it and ditch the bush league antics already.

    This makes me sooooooooo mad....

Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.

Ricky Williams....the Saskatchewan boys armstead and joseph....

I'd say we should immediately give any player we want to keep a fat raise before sunday.

Not sure how they are going to operate things this way.

So, theoretically, could you sign a player to a 5 year extension and not have him count towards the cap until 2012?

I'm actually surprised they pushed the date back that far.......I would have surmised a date nearer (before) the official FA date......

It's bush league. Any player playing next year should count. Anyone and everyone....no wonder this league has troubles attaining credibility.

            I think you're misinterpreting what they're saying.......

I read it as that any contract extention or the like signed before X date would be immune from the SMS in regards to the first year of the deal or signing bonus.

For example, earlier in the year the Stamps signed a whack load of guys to extentions. The skinny was that there hypothetically be a large bonus paid out up front to offset a smaller contract that extended through the years that the cap would be taking effect.

No, it would be bush league for the vast majority of teams having to cut a bunch of star players. This is entertainment, don't forget that. Fans have every right across the country to watch good players play good football.

Build a long term plan for salary control but give the teams grace periods so they don't have to cut everybody all at once and keep good talent on the field which fans can identify with. In the long term, those big contracts will theoretically not be available but teams can prepare for that.

I believe the SMS achieves those goals (if followed). Your wrong on this one griswold IMO.

That and I think you should post a link to what you're talking about to really tell if you're reading it right.......I've just gone over the LP site and I don't see where you've gotten this from.......?!?

I also don't want to see guys (who may carry large contracts) drummed out of the league because no one can squeeze any room for them under their caps........

IMO it would defeat the purpose of building our game if we had to sacrafice worthy talent to do it......

If thats the case then they need to raise the cap ceiling. No point in a salary cap if we start losing top guys across the league.

LOL this is one of the great all time posts, I am almost spitting coffee on my keyboard.

75 years in a row Rider fans SCREAMED that the playing field was not equal, there was no excuse for the richer teams abusing them and that they were at a huge disadvantage. Suddenly we find out that the Riders have spent as much as anyone the last few years and are in fact in huge cap trouble this year by over spending.....now we get this post? PRICELESS!!!

This coming from a Rider fan....A fan of a team who have screamed for a million years about financial inequalities ruining their chances......and now you are jumping the fence to promote overspending.....????

                        Holy **** that's funny......

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

You can't have a serious SMS if you are going to keep allowing BS like this to happen. You won't have to let go a bunch of big name players. Just offer them lower salaries.

If this is true then RRs salary and anyone else signed wouldn't count towards the salary. I find this hard to believe.

It's in the printed paper according to a buddy of mine. Quite frequently stuff is in print that is not on the site.
