It's just awful, telling a team they can't review a perfectly reviewable play that would have went their way.

Letting another team challenge a play that had clearly been called dead. Then to compound it making a fictonal call. (Probably made because the idiot ref realized the whistle blew).

They may as well get rid of replay if these guys can't do a better job of it.

worst commentating that I've ever heard, and that's saying something. They were screwing up left and right. Absolutely terrible.

I think the video review has been poorly executed on the reffing end of it. Two plays were botched, including the interception where Johnson was not touched but the whistle blew anyway. That being said the game wasn't won or lost on officiating.

Don't forget the 'incomplete pass' by Joseph, which should have been reviewed because I think it was a fumble. Not sure though, it should have been looked at though...

The screw up there was by the ref, he blew the whistle before anyone could recover the ball, meaning either the play has to be ruled a catch, or an imcomplete pass. Had he even allowed Calgary to recover the ball prior to blowing the whistle the play could have been challenged.

To be a ref in the CFL is an incredibly tough job. You are underpaid and have to make split second decisions all the time. That said video replay should be used more often to clear up plays, but then the game will drag on forever.

If any fans want to improve the officiating, let them apply for the job.

according to the NFL, it would not be challengeable. But with the CFL, it's different. Since the Calgary person recovered (after the whistle albeit) and clearly recovered, then they'd give it to Calgary. I don't like that ruling, but I've seen them do that before.

Here we go with the "you couldn't do better" angle. Look, just because we watch the game, and we don't officiate it ourselves, doesn't invalidate the fact that CFL officiating sucks. It does. No matter how tough a job it is, missing that facemask on Ray is inexcusible. Missing blocks to the face that guys on TSN are showing replays of over and over is inexcusible. You can't just fall back on the "I'd like to see you do better" excuse.

the CFL site is down, so I can't get a link for you...will try when it's back up. But I do remember it being the case, and the commentators said that it was the right call according to the new rules, and they brought out part of the rule book that explained it. I thought it was the stupidest thing ever.

The NFL has gone to a similar ruling. I remember a case in a Titans game where the defensive player recovered the ball as the whistle was being blown. It was obvious that players were fighting for the ball after the whistle. The Titans player had clear possession though, and even though the ruling was not a fumble, they reviewed it and gave it to the Titans.
