Riders: Over the Cap by more than $400K

This may have been missed in the other thread. You all deserve to rep Opus for this.

SOURCE: ERIC TILLMAN in his response to Barnes' article.

Even with the 2007 cap increasing to $4.05 million, I faced the task of reducing a bloated player payroll.

The Roughriders reduced our cap number by almost $800,000 over the previous season.

The additional numbers, which the league will validate later this spring, will show the Riders lead the league in cap-related injuries, with $385,000,

    2006

    3.8 million cap + 1.1 million over that = $4.9M

    SUBTRACT

    - $800k from the payroll = $4.1M

    ADD SALARY CAP RELATED INJURIES.

    + $385K = $4.485M in salary

    LESS CAP ALLOWANCE FOR 2007

    - $4.05M = $435,000

In the past Rider fans accused Esks of "cheating" with no proof. Nevermind that there was no cap anyways.

But now in 2007, we don't have to accuse anything -- the Riders own GM has provided the numbers already. And it's not second hand material...he wrote the article himself!

Which is why I don't understand his indignance......

It just makes him come off like a whiny douchebag IMO......

The number of 1.1 million over the cap would include bonuses paid to players prior to the Grey Cup in 2006 would it not? It was widely reported that the Riders needed to trim 700,000 - 800,000 to fit under this years cap.

As you, Opus, have pointed out over and over again (someone likes to read his own "thoughts"), the Riders signed twenty something players to new deals in this signing bonus window. Would it not reasonable to assume that the 300,000 - 400,000 differenc would have been to pay bonuses to players for agreeing to extend contracts? This is not an outrageous assumption. Even if it was 400,000 and 25 players, we're talking about $16,000 per player. Obviously some would have received more than others.

      Nice troll attempt Muley.

How is this a troll attempt? It's on OUR board, and it's in response to other rider fans coming in and trolling.

When you say it we're suppose to see 'justification'... but when we defended our team we were myopic or cheaters.

How is Muley trolling on our own board?

You make a good point about the exempt bonuses.....it was certainly not factored in. I had assumed that it was included in the 800k Tillman was thumping his chest about paring from the overall payroll.

Seriously, you guys need to stop thinking that the entire interweb is "your domain". If you don't like the content or opinions here, perhaps you will be better served back at whinerfans where the herd mentality shares a more similar mindset.

Yeah its not we like we all go over to Riderfans and post over there. If we were doing that then that would be trolling. This forum wasn't created for the riders.

Oh... but the Riders are "Canada's Team"... and we're in Canada... so that must mean this is a Riders Board too!

                      Amount Riders over Cap: $435,000

If this is correct, it's going to cost the 'Riders about $1.3 million (aren't they in the $3.00 for every $1.00 over the cap range?) plus their first round draft pick.

                      Looks good on them!

                      Cheers,

They may have to sell "shares" or something to raise money.

I officially retract my vote for DDS as Prime Minister. He's clearly incompetent.
