Ken Miller new Head Coach in Saskatchewan

Sorry, no link right now but the Edmonton Journal had a little article on the last page of the sports section stating that Ken Miller was going to be named head coach today by Eric Tillman.
Once I find a link, I will post it.

If that is the attitude that he takes then I will gladly volunteer to drive him to the airport.

With the number of times Hall has been passed over for head coaching jobs in the CFL, I'm really starting to wonder what's the matter with him. We're not hearing the whole story.

          Cheers,

This is a good hire for the Riders. Last year the Riders had the most innovative and intelligent offense they have ever had. Miller had a huge role in that. He is also very well spoken and highly intelligent.

Regarding Hall, of course I would expect that he would be upset about this. However, he is a professional and he has never sulked yet.

I'n not even sure Hall even wants to be a HC anyway.

I would think sooner or later that Hall would want to be a HC. He wouldn't do all the interviews that he has done if he didn't.

Paul LaPolice has been named as OC and Richie Hall will be staying as DC.

Saskatchewan Roughriders name Ken Miller as their head coach
                        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REGINA - General manager Eric Tillman didn't have to look far to find a replacement for Kent Austin.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders promoted offensive co-ordinator Ken Miller to head coach on Wednesday. "In a world consumed with style over substance, Ken Miller is pure substance," Tillman said. "He is very, very bright, he's an outstanding communicator, a true consensus builder yet he can be very decisive when needed.

"Perhaps as important as any attribute, Kenny has enormous respect in our locker-room."

Miller takes over for Austin, who left Regina to become the offensive co-ordinator at Ole Miss, his alma mater, weeks after leading the Riders to the '07 Grey Cup.

Miller's appointment as Riders head coach wasn't a big surprise. When Austin stepped down, Tillman made it abundantly clear the club's next coach would be someone he knew and was familiar with.

Miller, 66, spent five seasons with the Argonauts before heading to Saskatchewan last season to rejoin Austin, who worked with Miller in Toronto. In his time with the Argonauts, Miller coached the quarterbacks, offensive line and defensive line.

"As we go forward, our goal will be to achieve the very same high levels of excellence we established during the 2007 season," Miller said. "Success is achieved as good people work together toward a common goal."

The Riders posted a 12-6 record last year to finish second in the West Division. Saskatchewan then registered playoff wins over Calgary and B.C. before downing Winnipeg 23-19 in the Grey Cup in Toronto.

"As coaches, we are very fortunate to have a tremendous nucleus in our locker-room," Miller said. "Our men have demonstrated leadership, character and a clear understanding of the significance and value of teamwork, all of which are required to win a championship.

"As the 2008 season begins, though, it is important to recognize the fact we will be challenged each and every week and as such, we must be a better team this year. That will be our objective, and it will be reflected in the manner in which we work and prepare, as we seek the excellence our fans deserve."

I'm sure some Rider fans did, just like some Esks fans made fun of Kamau Pederson when he was with the Bombers and Ticats.
