I found it a good read thought I'd share:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Defence by committee
"The Play Maker" thinks the Edmonton Eskimos dropped the ball when they didn't hire Dave Ritchie as there defensive co-ordinator.(shut up already
) Ritchie recently signed on with good friend Wally Buono in BC. Instead of hiring Ritchie, the club went out and inked ex-Eskimo Malvin "Big Game" Hunter to coach the special teams while Hugh Campbell's son Rick takes the lead role with the defence. Dan Kepley will coach the linebackers. Great news for the defence as the Eskimos have reportedly signed Canadian cornerback Davis Sanchez to a three-year contract plus a club option.
The Don
You have to wonder if the Montreal Alouettes are going to run the ball more in 2005. With the recent signings of Michael Jenkins and Mike Vilimek plus the loss of Jeremaine Copeland and Thyron Anderson, it makes you wonder. Can you imagine Don Matthews changing his coaching methods at this stage of his brilliant career? I think not. Matthews will still have Anthony Calvillo throwing the ball for at least 70 per cent of his offensive plays. Look for free agent quarterback Marcus Crandell to sign on with a CFL team in the next few days. Alouettes G.M. Jim Popp still has interest in the former Calgary Stampeder who visited Montreal a couple of weeks ago. Popp's team is still in the running but look for the veteran to sign on in Saskatchewan.
Secondary help
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have inked a deal with free agent defensive back William Fields. Fields played for the Calgary Stampeders in 2004. Blue Bomber G.M. Brendan Taman told "The Play Maker" that he hasn't spoken to free agent Sherko Haji-Rasouli in over a week. The former Montreal Alouette is taking his time mulling over offers from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Blue Bombers.
Green with envy
Henry Burris has done it yet again. Smilin' Hank has shafted the Saskatchewan Roughriders and their great fans once again. Burris, who bolted Regina after the 2000 campaign for the bright lights of the NFL only to come back in 2003, reached a lucrative deal with the Calgary Stampeders. One of Burris' worries about re-signing in Saskatchewan was the fact that Nealon Greene was still there. That is pure rubbish. Both Danny Barrett and Roy Shivers have said publicly that Henry was there undisputed number one quarterback. Every great team in the CFL needs two solid quarterbacks in case of injuries. Mark my words - the Saskatchewan Roughriders will finish ahead of the Calgary Stampeders this season. Hey Hank! Watch out for Nate Davis and Scott Schultz.
2005 CFL Draft
The best two players in this year's draft are offensive lineman Nick Kaczur from Toledo and Jesse Lumsden out of McMaster. General managers around the league have to be careful not to potentially waste a first round pick on these guys. Kaczur will be drafted in the NFL and there is a good chance that he will stick while Lumsden should get a free agent tryout. The CFL made a brilliant change a couple of seasons ago when they moved the date of the draft so that it could take place after the NFL's.
Congrats
One of the nicest guys in the CFL has found new work as the New England Patriots strength and conditioning coach. Harold Nash, the former Alouette, Blue Bomber and Eskimo, has signed on with the defending Super Bowl champions. Good luck Harold.
