Esks second in league attendance numbers

    Calgary, 34,803, three home games
    Edmonton, 32,506, three games
    Sask., 30,651, three games
    Winnipeg, 29,000, two games
    B.C., 27,038, two games
    Toronto, 26,938, two games
    Hamilton, 22,535, three games
Montreal, 20,202, two games (capacity is 20,202)

The LD rematch and the later Rider game will boost the Esks into first place.

Are the Esks doing the back-to-school promo (free tickets) this season for the LD rematch?

I think it has been several years since they've done it for the Labour Day rematch. I heard the complaint was that the schools couldn't get it organized when it happened so quickly after the start of the school year. They had been doing the second September home game and I'm not sure they do that one anymore.

I doubt it..they haven't done it for the LD rematch since 2002, IIRC.

It's typically been the game after the LDR but since that is the Rider game I'm not sure what is happening...

Perhaps the Oct. 09 game against BC? I hope to god they haven't killed that promotion altogether...

That's BS...the reason they did it was they were selling the game out and missing out on A LOT of money. Which sucks because all the kids actually brought a lot of excitement to the games it seemed to me..along with some good games themselves...

Selling the game out and losing money? Where'd you hear that? That's not true at all. In fact, they OVERSOLD a couple games early in the 2000's which is why we had more than 62K in back to back years...

Thursday games are killing the attendance. drawing less then 35,000 a game was unheard of a feew years ago.

There are so many empty seats in Commonwealth that the Esks can probably afford to give some away. Plus, it means more money at the concessions and a better game environment. I'd love to see a 60K+ game at Commonwealth again.

I guess if I was like most kids in those days....you gather up all your friends and find a father - typically mine - who would pay the guardian ticket and you get eight tickets for the price of a seat. I remember those days and there were a lot of kids at those games. I think the Esks figured they could still get a good deal from those tickets and sell extra tickets for the LDR. I remember in 2003 being completely PO'd they put the free ticket game in early August against the Argos. I have no clue how that worked but they have done it at least once since as well. I don't live in Edmonton but if my nephews get the free tickets I am making my way up there...

I'm sure it is BS and I'm sure that I heard Rick LaLa Sure say it several years ago.

For what it's worth; Calgary's seating is going up to 40,000 for Labour Day onwards. Should drive their numbers up...

                          Yep.

Calgary is likely going to average somewhere in the neighbourhood of 38k for the year with the temp seating and whatnot (you know they'll sell out their 2nd SSK game at 45k or whatever they have by then, plus a big LD crowd, and they still have an Esks @ CGY game after that, too).

Can we avg 38k? 32 through the 4 Thursdays...that means we have to AVERAGE 43k through the rest of the year. Hamilton in late August (high 30s)...LD rematch (high 40s)...Sask (high 40s)...BC on Thanksgiving weekend (mid 30s)...TOR on the night before Halloween (mid-to-high 30s)...

Probably not going to happen. There's a shot, though, depending on results and weather and all that.

Yeah i went to buy a ticket next to us for my girlfriends dad yesterday for the LD rematch, and I talked with the woman about the kids giveaway. She said it indeed was the rider game and it doesn't look to be switching back to the LD game anytime soon. Too bad, I loved haveing 55K+ in the stands.

When we set the attendance record of 62,444 against Calgary where we whooped them 38-0 was unreal!!
