Re: 2009 grey cup - whats everyone's thoughts
Stamps fans would love to have a new stadium. Ol McMahon has served us well considering it was built 100% with private money. It has really out lived it's usefulness at this point. Commonwealth was built in 78? Still a fantastic place to watch football. Would be really nice to get a major international event in Calgary to justify spending some public money here.Originally posted by donniewilson#20 View PostI enjoyed myself - too bad the SOE room was a little on the small side - Still can't stand someones knees in my back during the games at Mcmahon - but great end to another great party!!!

Calgary now has over a million people and should be getting federal money to build a new one.Originally posted by chyep View PostStamps fans would love to have a new stadium. If they didn't get gov't money when they spent going out of style for the 1988 games, I think it'll still be awhile. Besides, where would they build it?Originally posted by donniewilson#20 View PostCalgary now has over a million people and should be getting federal money to build a new one. There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

They should talk to the province, they're apparently throwing around money. A town near my folks requested 40K for a new town hall, and the MLA arrived with a cheque for 125K... I sh*t you not. I guess it pays to keep electing PC'sOriginally posted by donniewilson#20 View PostCalgary now has over a million people and should be getting federal money to build a new one.Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Re: 2009 grey cup - whats everyone's thoughts
The 88 Games made a profit thanks to the very lucrative TV deal negotiated by Dick Pound I believe. Money from the TV deal went into stadium upgrades which included the box seets in place of all the wood benches. That was when my 53 yard line row 9 seats turned into 32 yard line row 35 seats. I wasn't too happy about that. Appart from opening and closing cerimonies, no events took place at Mcmahon so that and the addition of 10 000 permenant seats was about the extent of the renovation. Again, that coming from CODA's TV deal, not any level of government.Originally posted by Steve Vale View PostIf they didn't get gov't money when they spent going out of style for the 1988 games, I think it'll still be awhile. Re: 2009 grey cup - whats everyone's thoughts
Considering both the Oilers and Flames will likely be asking for cash in the next few years I can't see the Stamps getting much - if any - money from the government.
My biggest problem with McMahon has to do with concessions and the fact there is only one way into the west side of the stadium. Both of these are completely fixable as far as I'm concerned...Quote from Inquiring Mind:
Of course stamphater is sacred... we all worship the ground he walks on.

I don't know where they would build it, but with the amount of money this province adds to the countries bottom line - federal support should not be an issue.Originally posted by Steve Vale View PostIf they didn't get gov't money when they spent going out of style for the 1988 games, I think it'll still be awhile. Re: 2009 grey cup - whats everyone's thoughts
The league won't give a grey cup to Sask/Winnipeg or Hamilton because it costs too much to install temp seats. Why don't they deny Calgary a grey cup. The seating is horrid I didn't pay 250$ to be glued to the people next to me.
There is absolutely no way to move around the concourse area and why the hell do you have to use a porta potty in the parking lot, because the stadium is not able to handle a large scale event. Sorry Calgary but your stadium is bush league.
