Ti Cats vs City of Hamilton Here we go again!

The stadium saga continues! The latest news is that Hamilton City council has rejected the proposed site at Confederation Park and the Ti Cats are threatening to move again!
The City council will meet again Jan 12 to re open the possibility of the West Harbour site which the Ti Cats have already said does not work for them and will never have their support! Stay Tuned

What I am wondering about with this whole thing now is could it benefit the CFL still. There is talk about the stadium moving into the Toronto area (they still need the stadium for the games), could this mean the Argos moving out of Rogers Center and into the new building.

This quote from the TSN article
The Pan-Am Games committee has already had interest in being home to a stadium from the cities of Markham, Mississauga and Brampton, all located with the Greater Toronto Area. Pan-Am Games CEO said that barring a turnabout in Hamilton, his committee expects to be working with one of those three municipalities on a scaled-down soccer stadium by Feb. 1st, which was the deadline given to Hamilton several months ago.

I've had a hard time following this story. My understanding was that they would revisit other proposed sites, but the Harbour site is as good as dead given the Ti-Cats rejection of it, and the latest site is dead given the price of the lands. Hamilton's mayor still sounded very optimistic that something will get built suggesting that, in the end, no municipality will walk away from that much federal money.

Hamilton City Council is a bunch or morons. Now's the time to do it. With the 2015 Pan Am Games coming to the Toronto area, I would think there would be some provincial and federal money for a new stadium.
Maciocia, Hall, Strasser, Hairston and Thorpe are finally all gone. The rest will take care of itself.

Good luck Kavis Reed and the rest of the Esks' new coaching staff!

Where else are the Tabbies going to go? Relocate? I don't think so. I can't see them completely reconstructing Ivor Wynne either as that would require them to play elsewhere for at least one season while the work was being done.

What a mess. Let's hope that the politicians get their poop in a group in the near future.

Did you ever consider Bob Young selling the team to the "Ottawa Group" and/or moving the team to Ottawa? That would "solve" a couple of problems the league currently has - and there wouldn't have to be an expansion draft.

Jesus, Hamilton council is trying to drive the Ti-cats out of there. I think Young has been more than patient.

                  Both quoted for truth.

This last move by Hamilton Council makes no sense whatsoever. Except for the fact that every thing seemed to be going in the right direction BEFORE a new council was voted in... conicidence? likely not.

I don't see how this is in anyone's interests.

While Ottawa fans wouldn't have to go through the immediate growing pains of an expansion franchise and would be more competitive right away, there's an element that may well not feel like "their" team.

The loss to the Hamilton fans is evident.

The CFL loses out on adding a ninth market, something that it's well-poised to do.

Attendance isn't exactly through the roof in Hamilton, but it's also not the root of the current problems. Moving away from a market where you're drawing well and have a very, very long history makes little sense if there are contingencies to be had such as Burlington, Waterloo, etc that are more open to spending the dollars to build a sufficient stadium.

I, personally, put very little of the blame on Bob Young for this mess. He's been quite clear in stating what his projections show as economically viable scenarios and locations and what isn't. That's not to say that it's all on Hamilton's council either, as there is the real possibility that the steps needed to make football viable in Hamilton are beyond the reach of where council is willing to go, as sad as that reality might be.

Montreal fans seem to think the Alouettes are "their" team, even though it was a transplanted Baltimore Stallions franchise.....?

I'll remind you of the early days of their return to La Belle Province, and the sparse crowds that they played to prior to the move to McGill. I'm not saying that it was completely the relocation thing and wasn't reflective of atmosphere, the state of the franchise, etc as well.

Ottawa fans have twice lost a team. I would expect that, at least some of them, would find it harder to embrace a team that were getting at the expense of another city. Perhaps not.
