    Gary Anderson lives in Canmore?

He of the perfect season and the 20+ year NFL career? How did I miss this news? And he has a son who plays at McGill and is a top prospect in next year’s draft.

Been there for a long time.

I recall a few years back he got an emergency call from the Titans, where he had to fly back from Canmore to make the next game.
Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.

I must have heard that at the time, but for some reason it didn’t stick. Interesting that Austin grew up in the US to the age of 16 but he chose to stay in Canada to go to school. If Anderson and his family like the Rockies that much they probably had a place there for some time before his football career ended, however, and 2004 was probably just the full time move. His kids were probably familiar with the area and Canada well before they moved permanently.

Apparently they had vacationed there and fell in love with area, then after he first retired they moved there.

As per the son, which draft is he a prospect in? I assume it must be the NFL, cause I don't think he'd qualify as a non-import for the CFL.

"A Player who is physically resident in Canada for an aggregate period of
seven years prior to attaining the age of 15 years, or a Player who is a
Canadian citizen and was physically resident in Canada for an aggregate
period of five (5) years prior to attaining the age of 18 years."
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

I was wondering about his status for the CFL draft when I saw he was rated # 12 in the prospect list. By your quote from the CFL rules it would seem to, as you say, make him an import. We can never have enough good NI kickers, maybe there is some loophole where he he can play as a NI.

He's been listed by the CFL Central Scouting Bureau as a top kicking prospect. He kicks at McGill.

There is a second option as per the CFL By-laws:

            3. The following players shall be classified as import players:
            (a) A player who has received training in football outside of Canada by having participated as a player in a football game outside of Canada prior to attaining the age of seventeen years.
            (b) A player who has received training in football outside of Canada by having participated in a football game as a player outside of Canada after attaining the age of seventeen years, but who has received no football training in Canada prior to attaining the age of seventeen years.
            4. The following players shall be classified as non-import players:
            (a) A player other than one referred to in paragraph 3.
            (b) A player who was physically resident in Canada for an aggregate period of five years prior to attaining the age of fifteen years.

Anderson moved to Alberta when his son was 15 so he had only played a bit of junior football in the US at that point. So perhaps they're treating the cutoff as organized high school football - all of which was played in Canada?

It would seem 3(a) would apply to him... but I don't know, that's why I'm looking for clarification. Maybe a special exception was made as he played his high school and university ball in Canada as you mentioned... which would be fair enough, and his is a rather unique situation. He's a lot more of a legit NI then some guys who qualify on technicalities, ie. Ben Cahoon.

I think he actually did some kicking for a football team out of Canmore(high school?) before he went to McGill. That's what Rids has told me anyways when it comes to his eligibilty.
