Odell Willis sent to Saskatchewan in inexplicable trade

    http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/cfl...224605546.html

Winnipeg's decision to trade Odell Willis to Saskatchewan Thursday is perhaps the most lopsided of the lot. Pass-rushing defensive ends are always at a premium in this league, and Willis has proven to be one of the best, but the Bombers have not only elected to jettison him, but to ship him to a divisional rival for second- and fourth-round picks in this year's draft and a swap of conditional picks in 2013.
Run the Ball up the gut around the horn it does not matter. We run we win what is so difficult to understand.

    Divisional rival?
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

He'll fit right in with the Riders. The defensive clone of Ray Elgaard, offside on every play challenging the officials to call it. When the refs finally cracked down on him he was not as effective.

He's actually not as cancerous as national media want you to believe. He's a goofball, through and through. Whether he can focus it without Richard Harris is the big question. The youngest HC in the league may find him tough to handle. Great guy, though. I think it's one of those necessary trades. Hurts less that Oramsionwu oddly enough.

p.s. who was it pointing out that Taman will never hold on to draft picks? Oh yeah... me!

Not a fan of the trade. Weakens the Riders draft position and I'm not that convinced that Willis is THAT good.

Really? Winny gets a couple draft picks to help there canadian content, which is very important. You obviously dont seem to understand that, they also have young imports who should fill in fine.

Great trade for 2012, but may hurt us in a year or two, We now have the a soild D-line and will put alot of pressure on QB's, don't forget we added Mo Lloyd to the LB's... no question the west is a 2 horse race this year.

so you have one decent pass rusher in Willis. Mo Lloyd? Hhahahaha

it may be a two horse race but the gophers won't be the other horse.

Certainly hearing that Willis struggled, both on and off the field somewhat after the death of coach Harris. His production definitely tailed off through the year and his discipline certainly seemed to be in question. I read something to the effect that Mack would have kept him, but the coaching staff was done with him, and it sounds, by the Bomber's party line, that it was somewhat of a mutual parting.

With that in mind, I think the Bombers got a great payback on the asset - an asset that wasn't doing them any favours regarding his value. If they can replace him with a guy like Baggs, they potentially don't lose a ton on the field, may possibly benefit in the locker room, and certainly improve their CAD talent. Having given up their first round pick in the draft this year when they grabbed Kito Poblah in last year's supplemental draft, the 8th overall this year is a nice fit.
