    Khari released again...

    Ticats release Khari Jones

    Canadian Press

    9/21/2005 2:55:16 PM

HAMILTON (CP) - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released veteran quarterback Khari Jones on the same day they signed import quarterback Kevin Eakin on Wednesday.

Jones, the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2001, joined the Ticats as a free agent on July 26th. The former Blue Bomber, Stampeder and Eskimo dressed for eight games as the backup quarterback in Hamilton, throwing for 406 yards and two touchdowns.

"It was time," Ticats head coach Greg Marshall told the Toronto sports radio station The Fan 590. "You know if we were fighting for a playoff spot then he'd be one of the guys that we would look to."

Eakin, a six-foot, 219-pound import, completed 105 of his 180 pass attempts for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe last season. Eakin, 24, finished with 1,299 passing yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games.

"We believe that Kevin possesses many of the qualities needed to be a successful quarterback in this league," Marshall said in a release. "He's got a great arm, quick feet and strong leadership abilities."

Eakin attended training camp with the New York Jets and was one of the team's final cuts earlier this month.

Jones, 34, was the league's top player in 2001 when his Winnipeg Blue Bombers went 14-4 in 2001 and made an appearance in the Grey Cup. He led the CFL that year with 4,545 passing yards and threw for 30 touchdowns.

In 2002, he bettered both marks, throwing for 5,334 and a Bombers club record of 46 passing touchdowns.

Jones was traded to Calgary with four games left in the 2004 season.

I really feel bad for this guy now... nothing seems to be working for him. I wish him good luck for him and his family.

I think it's time Khari faced some facts......he just can't get the job done in game situations anymore. If Hamilton doesn't want you at QB, I'd say your days are pretty much up.

Sad way for a class act to go, all my best wishes for the future outside of football.

              :whs:

The QB with the Million dollar contract, that seemed to worth the paper that it was written on. Pretty large decline in such a short time, but when D Mac looks better than you after the amount of time KJ had to figure out the O, then it is well past your best before date.

Seems like a very good guy, didn't get a great chance due to circumstances but he was defintely the 4th best Qb for the Esks in camp.

Well...I'd say his playing career is over. How quickly they fall...

I feel really badly for this guy. I was never a big fan of his, but the way he's handled himself over the last year has shown that he has alot of class and grace. Good luck, Khari, in whatever the future holds for you.

And so the carousel goes around. I wish he would retire for his own sake, but I think we could see Montreal pick him up as insurance.
I told those f***s down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!

He could still play for BC, Montreal,Toronto,Ottawa or Sask. He has not played for any of those teams yet. But 4 out of 9 teams WOW!
All "rider nation" does is show how many people left saskatchewan for better provinces.

He'll probably set the record for the "I played for the most teams in 1 season record."

In all seriousness, right now is a bad time to be an average QB in the CFL (refer to Khari, Greene, etc.)

The talent at this position right now is better than I have ever seen it. Look at the calibre of players avaiable right now....

Dickenson, Printers, Ray, Maas, Burris, Joseph, Calvillo, etc.

And that doesn't count any of the NFL cuts that haven't made it here yet, like guys like Palmer.....if no one picks him up.

Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.
