Another Power Ranking Idiot...
if I may be so bold, it's not that I didn't enjoy Nanookster's 'rankings', I thought I might give it a slightly more *ahem* objective look:
1. BC - Little talk of some key injuries they have had on defense surprises me a bit. Yes the Esks did beat them fair and square, but they are still the class of the league. I perdict they go undefeated at home this year (to my obvious dismay).
2. Edmonton - Solid #2. Finally, they throw some intensity into their game, and they look unbeatable. If they can play every game like that, they just might be. Note that their O-line doesn't look half bad when it actually gets an opportunity to run block.
3. Toronto - Kicked the bye week blues Wednesday night, and as long as Allen can stay healthy, should be in Vancouver in November. Kevin Eiben having another year as one of the more underrated defensive players in the game.
4. Calgary - Another example where the talk about offensive inadequacies has overshadowed a great defense. A fairly easy schedule helps alot, and whoever is throwing the ball, if they can get it to Copeland or Lewis, they're dangerous.
5. Saskatchewan - You can't ignore 4 in a row. KK and Holmes are the best 1-2 in the league, but if the Riders end up in a big enough bind that they have to go to the air, the trouble starts. The Toronto game is alot different if the Argos could have gone up 17-0. That being said, should be in the post season one way or another.
6. Montreal - A team that can still run 'n gun with anyone, but seems to have lost it's intimidation aura that has surrounded them for years. Question for Als fans may soon be 'Is the Don staying or jumping ship?'. There is still lots of talent here, and I think maybe this is more just an off year than anything else.
7. Ottawa - It's a shame, not only did they start well, but they seemed to gain attention all over the league. Maybe that's the problem. Once they weren't able to surprise teams, the game plan didn't compensate. These guys still have 3-4 All-Star players, and could do something good if their environment remains stable. And by stable I mean after they get rid of Paopao as a coach.
8. Winnipeg - Give the Bombers Calgary's defense, and they would probably be 9-5. Roberts is the best running back in the league, Stegall's a machine and they can score as well as anyone. However, as Bomber fans will tell you, they have no defense to speak of. They'll have to make that a priority in the off season or next year could be worse.
9. Hamilton - Ticat fans can look on the brightside, as they will probably go 9-9 next year. They really took a punch in the stomach when they lost Montford, and it shows. They're desperate for a QB, but the sound owner and management are still there, so they shouldn't be at the bottom that long.
Oh, and just to make things that much more interesting, I'm a Rider fan.
