93rd Grey Cup Classic Officially Sold Out

Folks, the CFL is back. Pat yourselves on the back, and see you there.

"93RD GREY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SELLS OUT SEVEN WEEKS PRIOR TO KICK OFF

More than 59,157 fans expected at BC Place on November 27th in Vancouver, BC

VANCOUVER, BC, October 7, 2005 – The Canadian Football League and the 2005 Grey Cup Festival Committee announced today that tickets to the 93rd Annual Grey Cup Championship game are officially sold out. This announcement comes more than seven weeks prior to kick-off on Sunday November 27th and ranks the expected crowd of more than 59,157 fans among the top five of Grey Cup crowds in nearly 20 years.

"We are extremely pleased to announce a complete sell-out so far in advance of this year’s Grey Cup game,” said Dennis Skulsky, Chair of the 2005 Grey Cup Organizing Committee. “Football fans have responded with unprecedented interest for this year’s Grey Cup Championship and Festival in Vancouver. Maybe it shouldn’t be surprising given the exciting product the CFL has put on the field this season. Add to that the tremendous season the BC Lions have treated our local football fans to and you have a winning formula for selling out a Grey Cup”.

"The advance sell-out of the 93rd Grey Cup game speaks to the hard work and efforts of the 2005 Grey Cup Organizing Committee and reinforces the growing strength of the CFL across the entire country,” said Tom Wright, CFL Commissioner. “As we head into our Thanksgiving Classic weekend and with the race for playoffs building with excitement, we look forward to once again celebrating Canada's Championship with fans around the world.”

"Hosting events like the Grey Cup Festival gives us an opportunity to show the rest of Canada what a great place we have here in B.C.,” said Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Olga Ilich. “It also helps us build momentum and expand our efforts to dramatically increase tourism leading up to and beyond the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The Grey Cup Festival, Party on the Pacific, kicks off November 24th and runs through November 27th. Great entertainment is planned all week in the 28,000 square foot Molson Canadian Party on the Pacific Headquarters and The Molson Canadian Commodore Concert series featuring Colin James, Michael White and the White and April Wine. Festival events include the Save-On-Foods Grey Cup Parade featuring the Chevron Classic Car Showcase, The Vancouver Sun FanFest, the Scotiabank Grey Cup Gala, the Sports Action Beatty Street Block Party, the CFL Fantasy presented by Reebok and the Rogers CFL Player Awards.

As Canada's largest sporting event, the Grey Cup celebrates sport and community with a storied history of deep traditions. In addition to the thousands filling BC Place, the Grey Cup will be watched by millions of fans across Canada on CBC and RDS and in more than 160 countries around the globe.

The 2005 Grey Cup Festival, “Party on the Pacific”, will offer fans a distinctly Canadian entertainment experience with lots of West Coast flavour. For more information on this year’s Festival, visit www.2005greycup.com.

As hosts of this event, we are proud that Vancouver and British Columbia have stepped up and put on a first class event.

Offer to Eskimo fans arriving at YVR:

We know that some of you are flying in for this event, and would be pleased to pick any of you up at the Airport, and transport you to your Hotel. Kim and I have rented a Full Sized Chevrolet Impala for this purpose, and on the way into town it will be proudly flying an Edmonton Eskimos Car Flag.

We would be pleased if you would take us up on this offer.

The Party is at Our House. Welcome.

Damn.. well, if Edmonton ends up knocking off BC in the playoffs and making it to the cup, maybe some disgruntled BC fan'll sell me their ticket..

Someone offered to buy me a ticket with theirs and I couldn't afford it at the time. Dammit!!

They belong to the Rider fans that thought they would make the cup and they didn't, but because they paid so much for their tickets, no one else would buy them.

Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.

We should talk about this tomorrow. I can talk to Arlene (Lions' ticket Goddess) and see what she can come up with.

There are people who have NOT paid for their seats, and from time to time they come back up, mostly as singles. It depends where you want to sit, but as an honourary Section 17er, you have a much better chance at a seat with us in Section 5....if you can put up with us again. (Eskinator and True42 are with us, of course)

They'll be plenty of tickets for sale.

In 93 it was the same way.

I am guessing that the scalpers have a fair share of ticket allotment in this one, so you should be able to pick one up at game time. The price will depend upon two factors, factor A) Lions being in it will reduce the availability and raise the price. B) It may be interesting if the scalpers have out scalped themselves on this one, as our Season Ticket holders have 20K and yet purchased 45K or so before they were allowed for the public to purchase. If it is anywhere near 25K numbers on the streets it should reduce the markup considerably.

Just saw the entire GC week Schedule, and enterted it into my Palm Pilot. (I'm a geek, I admit it. There are just too many things going on that week to not keep track somewhere..)

Looks like we can get to SoE on Thursday, and possibly Saturday. Lions' Den is Friday, as well as the 13thman Meet & Greet, which we as lionbacker.com mods are hosting.

The Lions' Season Ticket Holder party is on the week of the WDF, so that really helps out with scheduling.

A number of you have my phone number, but if I'm not handy, contact fishman, and he'll give it to you.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Solar Max again.
Either way, we'll hoist a beer/diet coke tomorrow, and see what can come up! I definitely wanna get to the WDF game.. Should be a slobberknocker of a game to see who gets to represent the West and hopefully bring home the Cup to where it belongs in the West!

In all seriousness, what is the likelihood that if the Esks make (keeping my fingers crossed) we could buy tickets after the WDF. The reason I ask is that I would like to come out for the game, but only if the Esks are in it. Or should I start looking now for folks selling theirs?

There are always tickets for sale after the WSF and again after the WDF, usually people will advertise in the paper of the teams that are going. I know in 03 there were tonnes of tickets for sale in the Edmonton paper after the WF.
