    JJ's Retirement official

    Esks’ Johnson announces retirement

(Edmonton) Edmonton Eskimo quarterback Jason Johnson announced his retirement from football today. Johnson spent his three-year CFL career (2004 – ’06) with the Esks, appearing in 54 regular season games, three playoff games and one Grey Cup (2005). The University of Arizona product spent time with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills in 2003.

In making the announcement, Johnson says, “I have nothing but unbelievable memories of my time with the Eskimos. We won a Grey Cup and I made some great friends. However, I simply couldn’t pass up some great opportunities outside of football.”

A talented producer of documentaries and commercials, Johnson has a number of projects on the go, including one with the CFL Players Association.

So do you think we'll see an "emergency" QB brought in to compete in camp?

          Please not Khari Jones again!

They still might bring in another QB if only to keep the workload level down. You don't want your QB's overthrowing

At least we still have the Jyles vs. Lefors battle for the #2 spot to motivate them.

True but in all honesty, unless Jyles falls flat on his face, he should get the #2 nod. Remember Lefors is a lefty meaning when he is in there, his blind side is protected by Kabongo, not McGrath. I would guess that lefors will not seriously graduate up the ladder until Kabongo's pass protection skills have more polish.

With this happening so early I'd be surprised if the Esks do not bring in another arm. I'm sure Paul Jones has someone on speed dial to bring in like they did with Bliss.

Well even though he saw limited action in his time with the Eskimos I'm not to sad that he is gone. I like what I see from the other guys anyways.

Who's going to hold on field goals? We had a few growing pains in that position last season...now we have to start over again this year...

Nowacki was doing some holding today at camp.

I truly believe that if things had fallen a different way people would be talking about Johnson the way they talk about Buck Pierce. JJ was no Bart Hendricks, the chips just never fell in a way that he could get a true shot. The good news is that from day one he's been a pretty smart guy with a lot of other options and things he could go into. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors.

Kind of a useless tenure. He didn't get a chance to do anything and the coaching staff never let him play any complete games. I got the feeling they never considered him to take over RR job anytime soon.

Like Diesel mentioned, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see another QB arrive in camp. Just to have that extra arm around for awhile.
