EDMONTON -- Milt Stegall is starting to make Commonwealth Stadium his own personal field of glory.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers star slotback made CFL history yet again Thursday night in a 39-39 tie between the Bombers and the Edmonton Eskimos.
"He's a terrific receiver, said Edmonton head coach Danny Maciocia. "He's still scaring you, even at 37."

The early returns are encouraging for the league and the Eskimos.
Literally. And we're not just talking about Bashir Levingston's CFL record 129-yard return of a missed field goal for an Argonauts touchdown in Toronto's 24-22 loss to the B.C. Lions.
Nor is it merely a reference to Eskimos return man Tony Tompkins being released from the witness-protection program he and all the CFL returners endured for the entire 2006 season. Hey, Tompkins had five punt returns for 73 yards and six kickoff runbacks for another 122 yards.

The star Winnipeg Blue Bomber seemed a bit puzzled while trying to digest the accomplishment of tying the all-time Canadian Football League touchdown record in a rare tie game with the Edmonton Eskimos. The irony of the two ties being intertwined Thursday night in the 39-39 deadlock at Commonwealth Stadium wasn't getting a chuckle.
"Tie the record with a tie, it's like the cup is just half full," said the 37-year-old receiver. "I guess that's the best way (to explain it), I don't know. It would've been a lot better with the win, but a tie is better than a loss."

MONTREAL -- Robert Wetenhall, owner of the CFL's Montreal Alouettes, said Thursday he wants the league to alter its fledgling salary management system.
"The salary cap was approved by the governors, but it needs serious adjustments," said Wetenhall, whose team opens its regular season tonight at Molson Stadium against the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders.

I can’t think of a less satisfying way to end a football game then the tie score that showed when the gun went off yesterday night. To a player a tie is pretty close to a loss in terms of the lingering, unsettled feeling that’s left as a result post-game. It just makes you feel as if there’s unfinished business or something. I would have rather lined up our fastest guy and raced their fastest for the win at the end, or a game of chess, or a sword fight or something…anything but a tie! I understand what everyone is talking about when they say that it’s an optimistic start, and there were good things and promising points that can be brought out from the game and all, but it still leaves a bad taste to me. To me, it just means that we didn’t do enough at some point in the game to put them away. We never trailed throughout; we led from the front and simply never put our foot on the gas during the home stretch. I wouldn’t say that we dominated that team but I felt that it was a strong enough performance to get the win ultimately, so in that regard it’s disappointing.
