I hate to say this...

...but it's time to find a legitmate field goal kicker. Sean had a 67.9% average coming into tonight and missed two very important and certainly makeable field goals.

Punting is great.

But he's not getting it done as a kicker.

Maybe not our biggest concern right now, but it should have been 20-20 (at worst!) late in the 4th...

Completely agree. His long distance FG's have been a problem. But his punting is the best in the league.

No we have a new holder this year and only a 3rd year snapper. And we have our new field goal kicker, the guy they drafted #2 last year.

In my opinion longer range field goals have become a problem going back to the Higgins era and through DM because thes jokers never let our Fg kicker try one most of the time. I'm amazed that they didn't punt rather than try a 50 yarder. The bigger problem is not scoring stinking tds.

Not going to get on Wad too much.....I don't blame him for the 51 yard miss....so, if you figure they're going to run out that one anyway, even if he made the 45 yarder we lose by 1 point instead of 3 (they gave up a single on the 45 yard miss)

I don't think Fleming deserves all the blame. Yes he missed some key FG's tonight, but our offense has to learn to find the end zone. Our offense continues to be inconsistant; and it is not going to get any better, as we have swiss cheese for an offensive line.
Defensive had a pretty decent game, but needs to take a refresher on tackling. But the true weakness of this football teams comes from our punt return team. I've personaly had enough of TNT, which hasn't exploded since Grey Cup 2005. It is only early September but Tony is starting to look like October (winston that is). He no longer hits the holes with blazing speed, he runs around looking for holes......and could somebody block for him already!!!!

and don't even get me started on the refs tonight...................

Good post, but kicking still needs to be addressed.

Why didn't we use Ebell when we were on the five at the start of the game? When we missed the two passes I said at the time that those points were going to haunt us. Two passes? WTF?

Wouldn't call it effective. Ebell did a good job (I know that's what you mean), but to be effective you have to run the ball enough to do some damage.

I think he had a five-yard average on his carries, so he did well enough.

Running the ball opens up other areas on offence. If we can see this, why can't the coaches?

Which is the problem, we didn't use it enough.......as per freakin' usual......

Not necessarily.

Tonight, yes - 1/4 isn't going to cut it.

But the Esks have 14 TD's and 5 FG's when inside the 20 this year (before tonight). Not too bad, considering.

I agree that the FG department has struggled - was listening to the game when he hit his chip shot - which nudged his average to above 70% for the year. Punting has been good to very good....

They said it best - 'which is lower than what it should be to be a good cfl FG guy' by the 2nd banana on ched....
