Today at the Locker Room Sale I picked up Grey Cup Glory!, a book detailing the Esks' 2003 season. Graham Kelly wrote it, with pictures by Dale MacMillan, and at $5, it was a good deal. Nearly every drive of every game was summarized.
But Kelly had some glaring errors as well...
"[For game 2] Down Highway No. 2 to play the sad-sack Calgary Stampeders, the first of a three-game road trip
, the Eskimos went."
Um, no. Game 2 against CGY was at HOME. Tucker's catch was the highlight of that game. The Esks haven't had a 3-game road trip in the past 4 years.
"Although it was only July 5th, they had already played one-third of their away games
and were undefeated on the road.
"
Um, NO. Besides the fact that the CGY game was actually at HOME, we had LOST in WPG in the Canada Day game (which he had reported correctly as 14-12 for WPG).
"In all of North American pro sports only the Yankees and Canadiens have been more successful at winning championships."
Debatable - depends on whether you consider how long they've been around, or championship winning percentage, or what. We have been good, but the Argos have more Cups, and we're only 12-9 in Grey Cups.
"Only the Boston Bruins can match the 32 consecutive years the Eskimos have made the playoffs.
"
Has this guy been on the moon for a few years? NO ONE in North America can match the Esks' streak. The Boston streak is only 29 (68-96).
And in one picture, the caption is "The stands are packed for the West final. Happy anniversa[r]y, Commonwealth Stadium."
In the picture, one can CLEARLY make out the scoreboard, and it says "Calgary 0, Edmonton 28".
a) Calgary didn't play here in the West Final.
b) The LD rematch was the only game where the stands WERE packed.
c) The West Final had 40 081 fans against SSK...good crowd, but not a packed house.
Thanks for trying, but get your facts right before you publish a book.
