The Edmonton Eskimos announced Friday that both quarterback Jason Maas and defensive lineman Randy Spencer have undergone surgery to repair shoulder injuries.

Surgeons repaired cartilage in Maas' right shoulder. Spencer underwent surgery on his right shoulder to repair cartilage and a partially torn rotator cuff.

"The procedures for both Jason and Randy went well and they're expected to make a complete recovery. They will begin rehab after Christmas with our training staff and be ready in time for training camp," said Eskimo head coach, Danny Maciocia.

Maas completed 65.8% of his passes in 2004, for 5088 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Spencer had 22 tackles and six sacks for the Eskimos in 2004.

You knew JM's shoulder wasn't right at times.

that road trip to Winnipeg when he got hurt was just before the mid-point of the season.....says a load about Maas' character to suck it up and put up the numbers he did throughout the rest of the year......he still had a few great games afterwards, but in hind-sight it is really easy to see that things just were'nt right afterwards.....

Hopefully this is his last surgery for a very long time...

Not only does it say something about Maas' character but it says a lot about our backup QBs.

The coaches would rather take their chance with an injured QB than a healthy backup.

That move cost us a couple of games. If we didn't have compent backups then why didn't they try to bring someone in?

Hopefully this year we take care of those things.

His play through those couple weeks after the TO game where he really hurt it, you can tell it was something pretty bad, as he was protecting it somewhat. I couldn't believe they let him back in that TO game, but they had to as Hendricks was so BAD.

I think it contributed to the ball handling problems as well all season long.
